I am considering getting the 9 cell battery for my SZ, but I have not seen a pic of the notebook with the battery in it. Do any of you have a pic I could see? Thanks.

???
Doesnt really add or change much - though the $300 for the battery itself is freaking ridiculous.
-
Sony battery often cost more than other brands
-
You think its worth the money? Its like $261 on Buy.com
-
Unpluggednonthefly, do you mind posting some pictures of the side of the laptop with the 9 cell battery to show how much the battery elevates the whole laptop?

Does it really matter - it's the only extended battery option for the SZ.
Whether or not it's worth $300 is relative. A lot of planes still don't have power at every seat so being able to do West coast East coast or US-Europe on a single battery is important to me.
-
How much weight does it add?
-
ahhh
i like how it actually raise the the laptop a bit.
Unpluggednonthefly, I got a question
what is the battery life on Stamina mode? 5-6 hours? -
I only have the extended battery - it's how I got my SZ90 from Japan.
Battery life is always relative. Under XP, if I had my brightness turned down, wifi off, and other tweaks, I could get at least (if not more) than 7 hrs of battery life.
I haven't done a test under Vista yet.
As far as weight, it adds about a 1/2 pound (slightly less). So the 3.7lbs of the premium goes up to about 4. -
Here's a pic I just took after I unplugged my laptop a few mins ago. The SZ is in Speed mode.
Obviously things like disk access and such affect your performance, but I think saying 5 - 6 hrs on Speed is pretty reasonable.Attached Files:

I'm not concern about the price of the extended battery. I'm more concern with the shape of the battery & how it extends out of the laptop.... I wonder what sleeve will the SZ with a 9 cell battery fit into.... Personally, given the way the battery extends out, I may just buy an extra 6 cell & bring the extra battery along if I need that much time without plugging into a power outlet.
By the way, Unpluggednonthefly & FenderP, what kind of notebook sleeve are you guys using, if any?

I have both the VAIO padded sleeve [VGP-CKSZ1] and the VAIO neopreen sleeve [VGP-AMC1] and both fit the SZ with extended battery just fine.
-
I don't use a sleeve. I just use a bag that the SZ slips in and out of in a dedicated compartment so it's completely protected.
You can get sleeves that fit with the extended battery. I tried a few early on, but realized I'd never use 'em. I forget which manufacturers to be honest. -
The CKSZ1 is *not* an exact fit. With the extended battery there's a bit of a hump and it doesn't close as easily as if you had the regular battery. I tried it w/ and w/o my battery in and ultimately returned it. There's a slight "hump" or raising if you use the CKSZ1.
-
Oh, and I think the SZ actually is much better with the extended in terms of feel/shape. It gives it a slight lift and gives you better air flow.

Never claimed a "perfect" fit, just that both worked well for me.
Also, you've got that backwards. The neoprene sleeve, the AMC1, leaves a bit of a bulge, but you cannot tell the difference with the padded sleeve, the CKSZ1. -
Would that be the nylon Sony bag/case for the 13" SZ?
-
No. The Sony bags don't even come close to what I want in a bag with the ability to protect a computer.
I've gone through a few bags (Lodis, Acme Made) until I found a Cole Haan I've been using for quite awhile now. The Lodis was nice but not enough room to carry other stuff. The Acme Made slim pack was great for awhile, but didn't work for me. The largest reason was its clasp on the outside to keep it shut (magnets).
I'm more of a backpack guy but always only use on strap. If I was to design a bag, the Cole Haan would come close. I'd make a few minor adjustments, but I'm happy with it.

Just get a knock off, You can get the 9cell battery for like $70 US, Just make sure you kill and delete ISBMGR process, Its a program installed by sony so that if it detects a non sony battery it will shut the computer down.

Unpluggednonthefly & FenderP, thanks for the pictures, suggestions as well as sharing your experiences with the 9 cell battery. I'm glad that the polojag started this thread.
I'm still considering what to buy. I've been considering getting either an extra battery or the SZ docking station.... Been thinking about it for about 2 weeks & cannot actually come up with a decision & worse of all I missed amazon.com's sale of the SZ docking station ($167), they have just gone out of stock for that item... I'm on a strict budget currently & I'll probably only be able to afford just one of the items (battery or docking station) for a couple of months so I'm trying to figure out what is best for me to buy right now.... well, I guess I'll have to spend a bit more time considering my options.... Once again, thanks guys...
-
I understand your suggestion... However, like many others who have an SZ, I'm going to just let Sony earn that money on the battery, even though I hated them for the ridiculous price they charged simply because I've already spent so much on the SZ & I just don't want any unforeseen trouble that may occur using a 3rd party battery. I'm not saying that the 3rd party batteries are bad or anything, this is just my "piece of mind" preference.
-
I think it depends on your needs. If you're on the road all the time for work and need more juice, get the battery. If you're mainly using it at home, the docking station arguably makes more sense.
At one point ubid had the docking station cheap. I really don't use it, but for the price it was, I figured I'd pick it up. It was close to $100 refurbished.
Getting the extended battery for the SZ has convinced me that no matter what laptop I get in the future, I'm only going to get it with an extended battery. -
I just dont see the point in spending $300 on something with a life of just over a year.
-
Used your first battery, after that then u can purchase the 2nd battery at a later date
$300 of battery with only a year life is definitely not worth it. -
Hey, I appreciate all of your suggestions... I'll probably take more time to seriously consider my options. Yep, I have to agree with you all that spending close to $300 for a 9 cell right now is probably not a good choice given the random "battery not detected" issues...
-
Hey Unpluggedonthefly,
Do you have anymore pics of the VGP-CKSZ1 case. I want to know how bulky it is compared to the neoprene case (with the laptop in both cases). -
It is very bulky and adds about a pound and a half. You would just carry that and not anything else.
-
7 hours doing what though? I'm assuming it wouldn't be disk intensive stuff?
If you get 7 hours surfing the internet and using Microsoft office then I would say that is good because that's what I only do on my laptop.
Have you installed Vista on your notebook? If so, what kind of battery life have you been getting?
With the 9 cell battery installed, would you say the weight of the notebook exceeding 4.5lbs? -
7 hours of standby lol.....just joking
Sorry.
-
hi guys
please i want more pics of SZ with big battery
thanks -
Already shown in page.1. If you want more info, go to Sony Store & have a look at them.
