After my little adventure with an HP I decided to get this from Best Buy today. Specs:
100gb HD, dvd-r/rw, intel centrino duo 1.66ghz T2300, 15.4" xbright screen, 1gig ddr2 pc4200, windows xp media center 2005 edition (the only thing I'm not thrilled with is the integrated video)
besides that I'm loving it so far.
Here's a ton of pics for you all. Keep in mind im NOT a photographer and it's the best i could do lol
if anyone has any picture requests of it let me know and I'll do my best!

Yeah, reviews would be appreciated -
After playing with it for a few hours I have a halfway review of it.
To start with this laptop is the most visually appealing laptop I have ever used. It was designed real well with the extremely flat keyboard and the coloring scheme. I think that is what originally caught my eye was how beautiful this thing is.
The centrino Duo core is an awesome thing. It may only come out to 1.66ghz but I opened up photoshop while surfing the net and having a few other programs open and it barely hiccuped. It did hiccup when I tried installing a AOE III demo while doing some photoshopping.
This is my first laptop so I'm not sure about temp levels and all that but when mine is just sitting with nothing running the cpu is at around 45 degrees. This is stock setting. I don't know how to undervolt or anything. When I played the AOE III demo the temp got up to 58 degrees at the hottest.
The battery life is dissappointing at just over 2 hrs in my initial test. Luckily I will be having it plugged in most of the time. The other negatives I can think of are the speakers and integrated video. The speakers are above the keyboard and make the sound go UP rather than OUT and the integrated video speaks for itself. Although it did play the demo of AOE III quite well. That's the only game I play so it works for me.
The screen is amazing. The colors are all very bright and vivid. I have no dead pixels that I can see.
That is all I can think of right now. Feel free to ask any questions, I'll be around checking back a lot in the next few days. I'm going to look into undervolting and some other fun stuff to make this a more enjoyable experience!
1.75 thumbs up so far! -
does it include recovery dvd/cds and a windows mce copy?
-
-
yeah just like what my friend said. but, i think he said that there is an instruction in the manual how to make your own recovery disks which includes viao drivers. except the windows copy

I just love those laptop boxes, specially Vaio's
-
darn the duotone is just GORGEOUS!!! I think this is one of the sexiest Vaio's ever .. simple, yet elegant and striking.
U r one lucky fella 311 -
I usually don't say this, but that is one SEXY laptop!
Have fun with your new toy -
looks nice. enjoy ur new sony fe laptop. anyway, i have one question: What material is the case made out of?
edit: 311, does your vaio fe laptop come with any cd/dvd. like application, etc. and the speaker, does it sound weird when u listen to it? I mostly watch T.V shows on computer. so the speaker part is partly important. -
w000t i cant wait for mine!!!!!!
can you put it relative to money or something like the $1 bill so I can just know its right size and if mines fine for daily carrying.
Is it portable for daily use and carrying...like not heavy etc?
thanks man for the pics and I cant wait for the review! -
The case seems to be very hard plastic. It seems very durable and a lot more sturdy than the HP I owned for 2 days.
It comes with a handful of preinstalled programs for dvd/cd burning and watching/listening. I haven't really messed with them too much yet. As for the sound, I watched a movie last night to test it out and the sound isn't all that bad. You can't expect TOO much out of laptop speakers. -
Height: 1.4 in (3.56cm)
Width: 14.4 in (36.58cm)
Depth: 10.8 in (27.43cm)
Weight: 6.2 lbs (2.81kg)
In my opinion it is very portable and it isn't heavy at all. -
Thanks for the conversions and all, highly appreciated.
Seems its final, I will get it! -
Nice pics... but what is with Sony's obsession with huge AC adapters?
-
-
Not really, my dads 3 year old Sony came with a huge vaio charger.
Then when the charger broke he bought one online from original Sony and it was tiny and so really thin.
erm the latch next to the vaio mouse keys on the right...doesnt that feel weird or get in the way when you type? -
Does the palm rest or keyboard get hot during normal use? I use a TP42p at work and love how cool it stays during normal use.
Paul -
i saw on the Swedish Sony site that the sony vaio fe is aviable today in 160gb and 1,66ghz
with 1024memory...
i really want one to now -
The latch doesn't get in the way as long as you have it in the release position it goes back in. On accident I took the pictures with it in the locked position
the keyboard and palm rest does not get hot. -
good to know thanks, but how do you put in release position if you dont mind me asking?
-
When the slider bar is to the right, the latch is open.
When the slider bar is to the left, the latch is closed.
Just wondering about the screen res? I could probably check this somewhere else but lazy lol
And any future models comming out with a better gfx card?
What was the purchase price?
Other than that it looks fantastic. -
1280x800 max
How do you turn the slide bar? -
I paid 1549.99 from best buy. -
How loud is the fan? Im looking to replace my old vaio that is as loud as a chainsaw.
-
-
I just got this FE yesterday, and there's a prob that i can not resize fullscreen (can not go to widescreen mode)when playing games and watching movies, can any1 help me?
-
heres a pic to better illustrate what everyone is saying about the latch... and a question while iam here... Can anyone say whether the FE speakers are better than the horrible FS speakers? (ive been spoiled by the great speakers on the Inspiron 6000)
