    Hi I need to format my VGN-A170 Vaio laptop but it didnt came with any recovery disks and it has a function to get it back to factory state but it isnt working, what can I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

    format it b4 or during your re-install
    use the "abr" tool orev developed(hp clean install thread) and copy your key and vista certificate

    or one of numerous other partition managers(acronis, magic, etc)

    or you can format during the install w/ the vista install disk....

    Thanks for your response, sorry I wasnt more specific but I dont have Vista, I have Windows XP

    what about the function to make recovery disks?
    have you tried contacting sony to buy recovery disks?
