So I got the Z and I am very happy except for battery life and the issue named in this thread.
When I close the lid and settings are for "sleep", the laptop will literally run for 10-15 minutes. Is it the Eset virus program? What could it be doing for so long?
In addition, the power switch light glows red (?) then green (?) for about 20 - 30 minutes and then it turns off.
Can someone please explain?

Check the Windows event logs. They will almost certainly tell you.

For its capability and size/weight I think the battery life is pretty freaking impressive.
If I pushed my settings harder I could probably get even more time out of it but who really needs to. -
I've had the battery run out of me several times while reading books and listening to music in bed. I am used to the battery life of a Sony CLIE UX-50, and the Vaio Z is, unfortunately, a step down. -
Thanks for responses.
There was one other aspect I did not mention. When waking from sleep the Z is really working hard. It takes about 30 seconds to resume. That has to toll battery. any ideas how to speed up resume?
Has anyone figured out the glowing red vs green light when in sleep mode? -
I have one too, but the only thing that it does efficiently is playing MP3.
As soon as you do something with the screen on (and I'm not even mentioning WiFi!), no way is it going to outlast a Z in stamina mode. Perhaps you have an extended battery for your Clie, but an extended battery doesn't make a Z twice as thick. -
it is having nightmares about virtualisation

I'm running Ubuntu 64 bit and Virtualbox runs happily 32 bit XP. -
LoL
Please Tell Me What My Z Is Doing When It Sleeps?
