I got a virus yesterday and had to format. Unfortunately when I re-installed windows I cleared the partition not realizing its importance. Does anyone know how I can get the Vaio up in running? I downloaded all drivers from the sony site? Do I need to create a partition? Could anyone help me out with a guide of some sort? Thanks!!

I wish it was that easy. After installing win xp, most of the features on the laptop aren't detected including the wireless network card, dvd r, and the video card is messed up. I then tried to download all drivers from sony, when I try to install them it gives me an error saying "fail to update driver". It must be somehow connected to the partition that I cleared? Any other idea?

I think you are not installing the correct drivers. There is no reason it should not work. I doubt it is related to the restore partition. Windows should install irregardless of the restore partition. If you can get the network card working Windows Update may help with some of the drivers.

    Hi Tomo,

What model do you have? You're located in NZ? I'm not sure about those models, but I had exactly the same "fail to update driver" problems with the European version of the drivers which _came with the computer_ and had to use the SZ-120 drivers instead when I did my clean install.
