HI,
Here we go... I ran an executable file that was suspicious and it did turn out to be a virus... in a few minutes my net was down and I got that lovely feeling down the spine.
Next thing I do is... system restore, chose the last checkpoint and hit enter...
Vaio shuts down...
Vaio doesn't start again.
After the first vaio screen, when XP is supposed to start loading, it's just a black screen, and the HD Led doesn't even blink.
OK, after trying to restart if for the 5th time, I realize it's time for getting HD out and perform a backup. So, I did, took HD out and attached it to a borrowed Vantec Sata Interface and performed a backup, that was a relief, all worked well!
OK, since then I have tried everything... with no luck. Windows simply doesn't load anymore. The recovery disk works but it expects to windows to load at one point so the recovery process can continue from there. And when it asks to reboot I get a "operational system not found" message.
Question is, how do I do a brand new install of windows on a vaio? I do have a XP disk but it doesn't work on the vaio...
thanks in advance!
Francis

Does the XP installation not work because the installer can't find the hard drive?
I'm not familiar with how old/new your lappy is, so don't know the HDD connection. If it's a SATA connecter, then your XP disc won't be able to find the HDD, as it doesn't have SATA drivers.
If this is the case, what you'll need to do is download nLite. It allows you to rip the WinXP image from the installation disc and then allows you to slipstream the proper SATA drivers into the image, then burn the image to a new disc.
It went through many trials and errors, but was able to successfully do this myself, so know that it can be done with a little bit of work and a lot of payoff.
I'd offer the slipstreamed ISO myself, but my blu ray drive is no longer working and I'm waiting for my replacement from Sony. I'm sure you don't want to wait for a week. -
Install Windows 7 and forget about XP)))
You can try to create a new partition and install windows XP there and then just replace old windows directory instead new one in another partition -
Not if the laptop only has 512MB of RAM. That's what came up during a google search for the model number. That's way too low for Win7 to be of any good.
Please help! VGN-FE18GP ....
