I have a Sony vaio VGN-AW150, some time ago the lower portion of the screen went black, everything still worked fine, you just couldn't see anything on the lower 1/4 of the screen. I plugged in an external monitor to the VGA port and extended my desktop to that screen just fine, so i thought i had a bad screen. I bought a new screen on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350257123726&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT ) .
when i got the new screen i went to install it and noticed the connectors for the backlight inverter were slightly different and would not plug into my inverter, i assumed this was not a problem since the part numbers on the screen were identical so i simply switched out the connectors with the ones from my old screen.
long story short ... after connecting the new screen all i get is a solid white screen, everything else on the computer works fine, i confirmed this by agian attaching an external monitor.
on a side note.... while i was trying to find the problem i hooked up the old screen agian without actually installing it (i just plugged it in) and for a very brief moment the lower portion of the screen began working agian, but this was only for a short time and i was unable to make it work agian.
I thought maybe i bought a bad screen so i returned it for another, unfortunately i get the same solid white screen with the second one also.
I thought maybe about changing out the backlight inverter but have been told that cannot be my problem since the backlights are obviously working (thats what is making the sceen all white).
I am open to all suggestions ... thank you in advance.

I worked on an Acer that had a similar problem. This would be a temporary fix until you could get the right display. I took a peice of notepad paper and folded it several times and flexed the diplay. I figured out where the paper should be and taped it onto the back of the display. You will have to figure out where to put the paper. This fix is still working on that Acer.
Please help me diagnose whats wrong with my screen
