I've already replaced the module that's easy to reach. Now I'm working on the other, following the instructions in the user manual found here. One is supposed to release the two tabs under the battery compartment, which pop the latches by the F4 and F12 keys. I've done this with no trouble and the left and right upper corners of the keyboard are moving freely. But there is a third black plastic tab between F7 and F8 which doesn't want to budge. I can't seem to move it out of the way with a flathead screwdriver, and it doesn't feel like I can force it out without breaking something. The various guides I've found online do not mention this; they say the keyboard should swing easily out of the way after releasing the F4 and F12 tabs alone. PLEASE HELP! I'm sitting here with my computer open waiting to finish my upgrade!

    Maybe some pictures will help:

The tabs at F4 and F12 can be released via the two latches under the battery compartment. The little above F7/F8 is different. It does not appear to move, but it extends just far enough to prevent the the keyboard from lifting here, although it does lift freely in the left and right corners. This is a brand new S580, assembled one week ago.

Have you removed the two keyboard screws?? On the under side of the S580 to the left and right of the battery there are two screws which are deeper than all the others. You need a small philip head screw driver for these. The holes have arrows with a dot next to them.
Remove these two and then do the left and right latches. the keyboard will lift and the middle one does not move, you just force the keyboard gently through. slowly does it so you dont damage the ribbon cable.

I did remove those screws, as specified in the instructions. You really just force the keyboard up? I'm able to lift the upper left and upper right portions of the keyboard an inch or two without budging the upper middle which is stuck under this latch. That's an awful lot of flex, and I'm afraid that if it does pop out (instead of snapping) that it will take that mystery tab with it, or the ribbon cable. It doesn't feel like it will be a "slowly does it" situation. :(

I had this exact same issue with my S560, here is what I did - I went down to the local COMP USA where I purchased the machine and paid them $29 to install the RAM I purchased on line. The way I look at it $29 was very cheap if they broke the machine - even they had problems with the keyboard but did get it open - the way I looked at this it was a good investment of $29. Good luck.

Ok, I just did this on my S560P. Once the screws are removed from the underside and the tabs are pushed, both ends of the keyboard will lift a bit. However that middle tab is still there. To get the keyboard around it, use a small flat head screwdriver to gently pry the keyboard over the tab (it'll go pretty easily). Then gently remove the keyboard (remember the ribbon cable is plugged in near the space bar of the keyboard).

I was debating doing a writeup on how to do this with some pictures. If your still having problems I'll take a few pics of what I did.

Following up I did manage to force it out, not with a screwdriver, but with my fingers as close to the F6/F7 tab as I could get them. The Sony user guide warns not to force anything or you risk deforming the keyboard, which is built on a thin, pliable piece of sheet metal. I did bend this just a little in the process of negotiating that tab, but it was easily straightened out and the RAM went in without any further hitches. Thank you all for your advice and suggestions.
