    Update:

After installing WinXP SP2 several times I finally figured out the sound drivers from Sony's web site were causing the machine to go crazy.(locking up, not responding etc...) Now I have everything working well except the sound.

I followed the directions in the sticky and the problem occurs with or without the Microsoft U A A update.

My question is will the drivers for soundn in the sticky work ok for my model? The ones at sony for mine are the problem for sure!

Can someone help me please. I recently needed to replace my hard drive in my VGN-SZ120P so I made recovery DVD's and decided to upgrade to an intel X-25E 64 Gig hard drive. Installed the drive and tried to install from the recovery DVD'd like 4 times and everytime the thing would hang up like 90% through the install. So I thought it was the recovery DVD's I made, so I ordered another set from Sony and tried to install them several times without success. So then I got all of the drivers I could find and did an install from a XP pro SP2 disk and it kinda works but has problems, no sound, and takes forever to boot up and when I turn it off it gives the shut down screen but never shuts off. Also under device manager it just shows IDE for hard drives, shouldn't it show SATA? Will the X-25E work with this? I would appreciate any help!!!
