There have been quite a few posts regarding the TT's touchpad. It would appear that most of the TT owners on the forums have not had an issue with it (myself included), though there are some people who have had problems -- so I thought a poll would hopefully shed light on how widespread the problem is or isn't.

Non-responsive a short time after waking from sleep for about 5-10 seconds, forget exactly how long. Happened every time on wake, which was a little annoying. Not sure if it happened with hibernation wake.

dont know of these problems, but i bought a uk vaio tt11ln from the uk, so that might have something to do with it - not an imported tt90 from conics reinstalled with english vista from japanese!

Just unpackaged my TT and immediately had big problems with the touchpad. Searched the internet and found this thread.

The mouse cursor jumps around and the touchpad misses to register movements 25% of the time. I'm going back to the sony center where I bought it from as soon as I get time to see what they say. It's really, really bad.

Sony kindly replaced my TT today. The said part was that the next one had the same problem. After spending 10 minutes on it, you feel like throwing it out a window.

A brief try on their showroom TT appeared to work allright though, so not all are faulty.

They took it in for repair. The thing that worried me is the guy who gave me the replacement told me that if I submited it for repair, he was sure Sony would simply return it with no repair being made. Now I just have to hope he was wrong.

I've had problems with two of them I ordered, and could make several fail in the store under certain circumstances. Both were ordered in US and I believe manufactured in Mexico.

?!? I thought all Vaios were made in Japan, with the CTO models assembled in the U.S.

Sony Center in Stockholm Sweden was really helpfull in trying to resolve the problem. They replaced the TT with a new one. It had the same problem. They did not deny the fault and offered me a refund which I accepted.

I'm a bit sad though, as I really liked it part from the touchpad. I would not hesitate to buy one again if the problem is resolved.

No I need to find an alternative :-(

Good luck to the rest of you.

What are the alternatives to the Vaio TT? High resolution, small size, long battery lifetime and 4 GB of RAM?

I wish other owners of TT would come out and cast their votes. With only 12 votes counted after 2 wks this thread was launched it is hard to get a good idea whether or not the problem is sporadic.

I got my TT a week ago and the mouse pad is pretty much unusable. I've been hoping that it just needed to be "broken in", but it's still as bad as when I took it out of the box.

I love the TT, but the non-working trackpad pretty much makes me want to throw it out of the window every time I use it.

There is no doubt this is a defect. It's not that I'm sensitive - I'm not. I can use anything, but on the TT the pointer is unresponsive and jumps around randomly when I move it. It's horrible!

I've had several Vaio's before and I've had problems with all of them. I'm sad. I love Sony and I want them to be great. But something as essential as a non-working mouse pad is very difficult to live with.

Touchpad problem here in Greece also ... model TT21WN ... tried everything ... hardware issue ... can't use the touchpad for anything without going crazy ... I own a TZ also which works like a dream ... SONY must deal with this ... need a synaptics touchpad replacement installed ...

I would actually pay for a synaptics touchpad replacement on my vaio if SONY would cover the replacement process ... the TZ (which I also own) has a dreamy touchpad ... kinda breaks my heart having to deal with such an issue on my TT21WN ... spoils all the "fun" ... The moment my warranty period is over "I'm going digging" ... of course I'm not going to buy the "warranty extension" ... no need if sony can't fix anything right ...

Well I also tried the latest acer alps 7.5.2021.101 drivers ... I can verify the problem is not fixed but the situation is surely better (better response / minimal movement variations) ... still there is a major driver bug, mostly when trying to use the touchpad keys along with moving fingers on the touchpad area ... the cursor freezes and you get a "random keystroke stream" ... you need to press the power button to get in and out of stand by to get to a normal working windows enviroment again ... Also There is no menu to adjust touchpad properties with this driver ... still best responce I've seen so far ... much like a normal touchpad ... but if this bug can't be fixed I'm gonna have to go back to another driver ...

If I were SONY ... I would get my hands on those acer 7.5 Alps drivers and get them fully compatible to the Vaio TT laptops ASAP !!! These drivers may be the ones that do the TRICK !!! PICK UP THE PACE SONY !!!
