Will we see a new Sony Vaio S13/15 or another naming scheme for Haswell that will include a 7 series NVidia gpu that is more potent than a gt 640m le without the need to overclock it? I mean i'm willing to compromise and add maybe 0.5-1lb on top of the 3.7lb s13 or 4.4lb of s15 if a proper upper midrange class 2 gpu is included.
Obviously I also want Sony to improve the display on the s13 by removing that grainy effect and improving the contrast ratio a bit and black lvls. Also no orangegate issues on s15.

S is now their only business line, though nothing close to what Z was, and I doubt they will remove it.
As usual, they will change it so much that other than the name, you can find jack-squat similar to the previous series

I think you're a bit too hard on Sony in the case of the S series. Its been pretty much small evolutionary updates to the case coupled with upgrading the hardware, but sadly also cutting options like fingerprint scanner and 3G WWAN. (though you can get built in LTE now, if you buy it in Japan)
I know of no other laptop that gives you the breadth of features at the weight that the better equipped Sony S models do.
Incidentally, I'm waiting for a Haswell update and a Triluminous display, at least in the high line.
I see two reasons why this has not happened yet:
1) Intel's USB 3.0 chipset bug forced them into a staggered release of Haswell, with many parts only becoming available over the course of the 3rd and 4th quarter.
2) Sony will surely want to sell out any Ivy Bridge models they still sit on.
I think reason 1 is the key though and the reason that all manufacturers are slow on Haswell updates. As far as I know, Samsung, Asus and Acer are all chomping at the bit to get more Haswell chips, since sales are dismal and they can't sell any of what they have announced at Computex, meaning their now officially "old" machines will only move with discounts if at all.
Sony has just quietly discounted the S series, but without announcing anything, even though the next step is obvious anyway... -
In response to your notes above......
1) Re: the USB 3.0 chipset and Q3/Q4 availability of parts.....how is it that other mfg's are shipping Haswell laptops?
2) If they wanted to move their Ivy Bridge S-series they should be offering some better discounts...the best "incentive" i've seen for the IvyBridge S-series is the Free sheet battery or free Docking station. That is the same incentive that Sony offered in summer 2012 and christmas season (and possibly other times as well). That is SUCH a wimpy incentive for purchasing a system built on last generation's chipset.....in fact it is a JOKE...hey but if there are people naive enough to go for it...good for you Sony. For all of us savvy purchasers it's kind of an insulting offer....it's a more appropriate incentive for a new system to create initial demand not one for moving last generation systems....$400 would be a reasonable incentive if they were serious about moving old rapidly depreciating inventory.
Why has Sony removed the S-series from their Japanese and European websites...that to me is a sign that Sony is simply killing the S-series? If they choose to kill the S series without replacing it with something comparable it would be the text book example of a company that is clueless about their strengths. Hopefully they will continue to offer a S series class machine (and no the Pro, while nice, is not a S series class machine). I think it would be in Sony's best interest to make a statement of intent regarding their plans to offer a S series class systems...such a statement would at least allow them to hold on to their S series class customers..What do they have to lose by doing so? It would simply give Sony customers some reason to wait to see what Sony will offer in that class of systems...As it stands now customers are just giving up on Sony and going elsewhere because of their failure to make any statement. Maybe Sony is just clueless or too arrogant?
Potential Sony Vaio S or another model name (besides fit) upgrade for Haswell with upgraded dedicated gpu info?
