Are any of the power adaptors of the above interchangeble? For instance will the bar type adapter of the SZ and/or TZ work with the Z? Does anyone know?

I am using the bar - it has the same specs as the original and works fine. I don't think that you save any weight. It does fit better in my backpack.

    Z590.

Very cool - I do not have to purchase another - I am assuming you are talking about the bar for the SZ and not the TZ? I actually have both.

    Selling the SZ soon.

    Its easy to find out.
Just compare the Output power ratings.

    For my SZ7VN/X

    19,5V / 4,7A

I can't see why the plug should differ.

Yup, you can use it for the Z.

Stick AC Adapter VGP-AC19V21 for SZ.

it works, though sony's website doesn't show them as compatible. sony is probably trying to make you buy more specialized accessories even though the specs on both are the same. i have several extra chargers for my SZ which thankfully all work on the Z, though i'd like to know if there is any danger in this.

The TZ and Z/SZ are two different beasts and not interchangeable.

    Check the output!
If the output Volts (V) and Amperes (A) is the same and the plug fits easily there is no danger, if the output is different better stop, damage will come - sooner or later.

I recall reading an article about the rate of charging which is built into the adapter. Some chargers do charge faster than others, and I am not sure if it will hurt the battery.

The rate of charge wont be directly relate to the charger as far as I'm aware.
The rate of charge will depend on the Voltage and the resistance of the battery/components with the battery for charging.

Thus, if your "Power Brick" has the same output values it shouldn't cause any damage.
If the output is higher it'll fry your system, if its lower it will either fail to supply sufficient energy, or if the power consumption stays the same at a lower voltage will fry your system/power brick too.

Will the Sony Stick AC 19.5v adapter VGP-AC19V21 work on the Z series laptops. Sony's website says not compatible. Why wouldn't it be?

    Output may be an issue...
The plug could be different but I doubt it.

What if the power adapter is 19V, 90W (ie 4.7A) ? Can it be used to replace a Sony rated at 19.5V, 4.7A?

    No.
(Theoretically yes - however computers are sensitive equipment, and therefore no)
