I don't know if this is a widespread dilemma - or if its just my dilemma - but when I leave the power adapter that came with my vaio z plugged on the laptop, it does a consistent high-pitched rapid sound. Kind of like a cricket chirping but faster.

Does anyone have any opinion about resolving this? Should I check it out with a sony worker?

Get it replaced ASAP. These power supply are switch-mode power supplies but the transistors have high switching frequency beyond the audible range at this power range, so you shouldn't hear anything at all.

If the chirping is coming from the adapter itself, then you have a faulty adapter. What you hear may be due to a loose short circuit (any visible damage on the cables?). When my dog was chewing through my adapter cables while it was plugged in, there was a similar sound (he was totally confused but that didn't stop him from continue chewing until I figured out what the noise was).

It may not necessary be a short, but you have a problem nevertheless. Get it replaced :).

(I didn't ask but I hope its not your laptop making that sound when the adapter is plugged in. That would be even worse).
