    Hey everyone.

I'm testing out a used sony laptop before I buy it. It doesnt have its original adapter. The current adapter seems to work, it charges the battery, and the laptop works fine as long as the battery lasts. The problem is that I can't run the laptop using power directly from the AC adapter.

When I have it powered on and plugged in, it just uses the battery rather than the AC adapter.

I tried taking the battery out, and it wont work at all.

Is there a switch I'm missing or something?

    Any help is appreciated
    thanks.

been playing around with it for a couple hours now.....

The adapter ALWAYS works fine when the laptop is off, and the battery is charging.

The adapter light usually turns off 20 seconds after I boot it up.. it then just switches to using the battery.

Sometimes I can get the adapter light to stay on for awhile (while the laptop is on) and it says the power source is AC power and that the battery is charging.. but the percentage of the battery charge is still going down. The battery dies slower when the AC adapter is working.. so its a little better, but it should actually be charging right?

    thanks for any info
