    Hi everyone,

I currently own an S series which shows strange behavior in the "power meter" in Windows XP.

When my AC is plugged in, my battery always shows "charging" in the power meter, even when the power remaining shows 100%.

Do any other sony owners out there experiences this? My battery isn't being overcharged?

    Thanks for your help!

My A series has exactly the same behavior. I don't know if that is a BIOS issue or not, but no laptop I've ever owned before had this behavior.

Could this be a software issue?

I don't think this is a problem. It's just could be a possibility that the system/OS is not reporting the correct stuff. Also, when you have the AC connected with the battery in, the battery is technically continuously charging because it keeps topping upto 100%.

The system will not overcharge your battery, there's safe guards in the hardware. But because it keeps topping up the battery, it will start to decrease the overall life of the battery. I personally remove the battery from my system when it's sitting on my desk connected to the AC.

    @pagoda,

No, I didn't do a clean install. It's been like that from the first day on. The battery isn't really warm, therefore I assume it's just not reporting it correctly.

i just tested it with Battery Eater. it says the same thing.
    AC status: online
    bat status: charging
    total: 100%

so that means i need remove the bat to prevent it from "top itself up" when i connected to AC?

Hello, I am new to the forum. I just purchased an S260 yesterday and used it for most of the night with no problems. However, after the battery had charged, I figured I would run on the battery for a while and disconnected the Power supply. Shortly afterwards, the computer rebooted itself. And everytime the logon screen would appear, the computer would reboot.

I did a restore and the same problem. However, I then started uninstalling stuff and discovered that once Norton IS was uninstalled, I could bootup on the battery. Has anyone else experienced this problem.

Also, I have noticed that the battery meter in the systray always shows charging even though it is 100%. Do other people's PC show charging even though batter is 100%? Could this be related to the problem I am seeing with Norton.

    Thanks,

    Rick
