When I go into the Vaio Control Center under powersaving and energyoptions (hope they are called like that in the english version) you get to choose between three modes: balanced, performance and silent mode.
The thing is that if I switch from balanced to performance the fan turns on straigt away which is expected. But if I switch from balanced to silent mode the same thing happens. At the moment the balanced mode is the one running most silent which is kind of weird. The silent mode becomes quite loud although CPU power should be lower in that mode.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Do you experience the same with your SAs?
    Thanks in advance!

If I would guess, I would say that Sony wanted to do this:
In performance all vents turn on, computer is prepared to run at top speed without overheating.

In balanced vents dinamicaly adjust to the load, but the adjusing should be pretty aggressive. When the temperatures rise, the wents speed up. If the temps rise more, so does the vent speed.

In silent they probably wanted to make the percent of the time in which the vents are audible as little as possible. So the vents sould be at extremely low RPMs most of the time, but they should turn on pretty loud for short amounts of time. But they probably screwed this up, because it doesnt work for most people. Maybe they predicted much lower CPU temps and they put them in the program. So when the computer is running completely fine and relatively cold, the program actually thinks that the temps are to high and it agressively speeds up the vents. But even when the temps are low enough it does not stop but instead keeps the wents running, because it still thinks that it is too hot in there.

OK this could be the case. But I think I will contact Sony nevertheless and ask them about that because silent mode should be silent and not louder than balanced mode. Maybe they can create a patch to fix the problem.
