Which pre-installed programs from Sony are very useless that I should get rid of?

most of them do something useful and you may find you need to use one of them at some point. the problem i found was that so many of them load themselves into memory at startup even though i may only need it once or twice a year. so i'd recommend unchecking those programs you dont use in the startup tab of msconfig and only uninstall if you really need the hdd space.

    cheers.

    Elbserver - part of Sony's Multi-media software - Personally I un-installed it.
ISB Utility checks/verifies your battery (original Sony etc) - That will come as part of the Sony Utilities series (usually required for your various special function keys).
The recommendation above makes good sense - just try the disable method - if no impacts to how you want to use your system, then make the choice to keep/uninstall.
Your other option is a clean install (always better) but Sony does have specific order for Driver installation to make the function button etc work properly.
