I just picked up a new XP Pro disk/license, and I want to put it on a NR385E which I haven't even unboxed b/c it has Vista SP1 now. The notebook didn't come with an OEM Vista install disk, which I understand is becoming more common. Can I create one to save my licensed copy of Vista for future use, or am I out of luck? Also, is there any reason I should not just boot off of the XP disk when I start the notebook for the first time? I've already DL'd all of the XP drivers from Sony. Thanks!

You should have a Vaio recovery centre which will allow you to completely back up your operating system on 2 DVDs or 1 DL DVD.
(PS: That should be in the manual, a little aditional booklet) -
VAIO's in the US don't even come with owner's manuals. Also, I have read several threads (on other VAIO models) that describe ghosting drives, companion disks, etc. Is it really so simple that I could go into recovery center and be able to create OEM-like Vista install disks? If so, great, but everything I've read leaves me somewhat skeptical still. Thanks for the reply. Any further help, anyone??

Search for the Vaio recovery centre - it'll guide you through.
