I've decided to order the tz91 with 64 gb. ssd, 1 gb ram (will upgrade myself later), internal dvd., 1.2 processor. I want to order it on Monday. Do I get the carbon black or the white? No difference in price. I know this is a frivlous question. Does anyone own the white? Also, any DISADVANTAGES for buying from Japan, other than the warranty does not include breaking the computer. Dynamism will put everything in English.

Premium carbon is very cool - looks nice on the SZ I own. But some prefer a color. If you like white, just get that. Don't let someone else influence your color choice. The only disadvantage I could see it may get dirtier easily, but I don't know.

Dynamism does a good job in the conversion, and they'll handle normal warranty stuff, so I say if you're OK with the $$$$, go for it.

Jenny, Dynamism also doesn't put junkware on it, Home Premium is standard and they now offer an XP option, finally!

The white will get dirty though, no question about it, so if you don't mind marks on the palmrests, go for it!

I have white (platinum) TXN15 and I didn't noticed any difference in how much dirtier it gets from my previous silver. I think you should take a look at each one and just pick one which appeals to you more.

I had a great idea. There is a sony store in phoenix. I am hoping they have the tz in white so I can see what it looks like.

THanks for the advice about the junkware! That didnt even occur to me. I am really happy with their service. With home premium, can I used the pro version of windows? Work is going to give me pro. so I can use powerpoint and access.

Also, will I notice much dif. between 1 gb RAM and 2 gb? I was planning to upgrade later.

    Thanks. You guys are great.

yea you'll notice a big difference with 2gb of ram

you can put xp pro on it, you'll just have to find all all the drivers. im sure someone knows where they are here.

Since you referenced PPT and Access, do you actually mean Office Professional?

Dynamism handles dealing with Japan so it's not a problem. The TZ comes with a 3 year warranty.

No but even if they did there's no saying it'll work. For example, a 2GB SO-DIMM fits in my G1 which technically would bump it to 3GB, but the Sony won't boot with it in so it's clearly not allowed in BIOS. Therefore I'm only allowed to put up to another 1GB in, for a total of 2GB which I have now.

Yes, I did mean office professional. Sorry.

The computer would have to go back to Japan, but in Japan the Sony's come with a 3 yr. warranty. Dynamism sends it back to Sony Japan. It does not, however, cover breakage if you drop it.

I was just in the SonyStyle in San Francisco, after buying a copy of Leopard :D , and they had about five black models and one in Champagne, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Well they have white in one of the other series, so I thought I might see if I even like the white. They do have the tz in premium carbon, so I will check that out. I am not planning to buy from Sony directly, although the more resistant I was on the phone, the more the guy discounted the laptop. He was down to a free four year warranty, $100 off and free overnight shipping. I dont know what else he would have thrown in I had shown some interest.

Yes that helps a lot rahulnirmal. I didnt realize the carbon looked so nice. I actually might prefer that, although it would be cool to own one of the few white sony vaios in the country with 64 gb ssd drive. :)

For me the real question is the premium carbon or the natural black. Somewhere I read that the natural black is more easy to scratch it. Can anyone that seen both colours confront them? The white is a little for girls, i think. But of course there is not something more relative and personal as the choosing of the colour.

I like the white one, however, the black contrast of the battery and hinge kills it for me, it just sticks out like a sore thumb. I like the sleekness of the premium carbon and I definitely don't want people to think I have a macbook, not that there's anything wrong with it.

haha its too small to look like a macbook

and with the vaio on the lid i dont think people will mistake it for one
i like the premium carbon better though. white is just eh and will get way too dirty, you'll have to clean the thing everyday (probably more than once)

can I have one of each please?
I didn't realize how cool white looks. I like the keyboard. ubercool you are right about the keyboard. I don't think hinge and battery stands out so much, bottom is also black.
They are both awesome. The easiest way to choose is when only one is available.

    @Mandersen

Hi man, did it arrive the precious white TZ91? Let us know how it goes, if get's dirty or other issues.
How much are the taxes in Norway? In Italy is 20% :(

Totally agree. I have both a white MacBook and a white ASUS W5F and both would never be mistaken for a white Sony TZ! :D

I agree with that, don't like the black battery "tube" either. :(

Yes, it's a very cool look and like I said the keyboard will be a lot easier to navigate on a dimly-lit plane.

Like Rob says above, the choice of color has been made for me. I was at a lunch meeting this afternoon and was immediately struck by how cool it would be if I could surf Web sites while in the restaurant.

So, I'm going to order the Bordeaux-colored TZ198 from that guy on eBay that Rahul found. While I wouldn't mind white for its greater ease of use, or stick with Premium Carbon because it's so cool, I have no real choice, if I want an SSD and hard drive built-in.

Besides, I can get accidental damage protection to save me from future flight attendant moves! :D

Still waiting, because the bank made a mistake with the payment. They are fixing it now, but I think I have to wait some few more weeks, unfortunately, because of this. I am really losing my patience...

I will give my impressions and evaluation when it finally comes to me and have had it some days to play with and preparing it. I am afraid the Norwegian taxes are 25 %. Really nasty!

Well I decided that I like the carbon black the best. I didnt see the white in person, as they didnt have a white model in stock, which might have swayed me. I thought the black looked good enough.

SOrry you have to wait for the white tz ubercool! That must be tough!

ubercool, I agree with you that also the Premium Carbon version is really appealing. For me now, I buy the white one. But in the future I have thoughts about both the Bordeaux and the Premium Carbon. The regular black is not for me, because I am so tired of having had black Thinkpads for years.
