So I finally got my hands on an SZ160, and the SZ120 is going back.
LED screen, carbon fibre (I checked for the diagonal lines in the store, it's the right one !), lighter and thinner... it's what I wanted.
So, tell me:
What are the first things I should do when I get the machine ? i.e. the things that you wish you had done and had to do a few hard-resets to get right... like:
- Make a backup DVD
- Perform the USB SP2 fix
- Remove some of the bloatware (but not all, since it might break functionality !)
- etc...
Please help a fellow Premium owner out !![]()
Thanks !
-
first and foremost you should post pics
-
REMOVE NORTON!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE REMOVE NORTON!!!!
Javier -
haha...
OK, pics pics pics I will post tonite.
Other than remove Norton (I put NOD32 in its place on my 120 before)
Anything else ? -
Don't drop it.
-
First thing I did after I returned my 120 for a sz160 was check to see if there was fewer bloatware. There wasn't, so I made backup DVD's and did a semi-restore.
-
Is the led that much noticable? As in its defanatly whiter/brighter and the battery indicator, does it seem like its going to give you more time? Please if you got pics of both post it.
hows light leakage? -
that cool, sz160 is sold out everywhere. Where can u find one?
-
The same place I bought my 120, a place called Neulogic in Montreal.
I was constantly calling them to see if they had the 160... finally paid off. -
ProphetX: As promised... this is for you !

nice pictures. How is the screen compared to your old notebook?
-
It's definitely different... brighter, less light bleed.
There's a strange sort of cross-hatching pattern in the lighting of the screen (no its not the carbon fiber), which I assume is a product of the LED lighting. Not bad, just different.
It's also way thinner than the SZ120 of course.
I haven't seen astronomical changes in battery life tho, I understood that I was supposed to get 30-60 minutes more battery life with this LED screen... I dunno. -
any way of getting a picture of what you mean about the cross lighting?
-
Is it worth the upgrade?
Some have complained that the 110-140 series feel like cheap plastic.
Is the premium cheaply made to?
Is the screen worth the upgrade?
I am thinking of a SZ150 vs. 2.0 SZ140 -
starstreak: I'm trying to get pics of it... its tough to re-produce on the camera ! Like I said, though, its barely noticable. It's a Sony screen... its quality.
amuraivel: For the increased battery life, lighter weight and sleeker design, yeah I say it's worth it. I always like having the best of breed.
It doesn't feel like cheap plastic, in fact, I prefer the smooth top much more over the rough top of the non-premium series.
I can see the carbon fiber, I'm trying to get a good photo of it.
It's true that the premium top looks like plastic, but if you try bend it, it cannot be bent as much as the non-premium top... pretty good for something half the width ! I know, I had the non-premium and the premium and compared both. -
ikaris- How much of a difference from the old computer? The sz120 you had before?
-
It's lighter... the battery doesn't rattle... I haven't done battery tests but the LED screen takes less power of course... the screen is thinner, and the carbon fiber is definitely tougher than the magnesium... I find the black looks sleeker, but that's subjective.

main thing for me is the 256mb for the video card and if the screen is much brighter than the old screen. I literally have to have the screen on max brightness for games and maybe 1 or 2 bars lower for regular use.
Premium owners: I'm upgrading
