Well, I had a few questions that for whatever reason haven't gotten answered regarding the S260 in a thread I started this afternoon - oh well. No one responded []
Even without the answers, I think I'm going to go ahead and buy an 260 anyway, but I do have one question that I'm HOPING that people can give me advice on. I've been watching the price of these notebooks for the past 3 weeks, and Best Buy just lowered their price down to $1,650 (with rebates). After taxes, the final price will actually be about $1,800. I've been checking out eBay, and the pricing surprisingly isn't much better. I'd rather spend an extra 50 bucks and get it from Best Buy than from someone who I don't know. However, if I could save a hundred dollars or more, then I would go for it. So, the question is... does anyone suggest I look elsewhere for the S260 or does the BestBuy price of $1,650 sound pretty good? I would really like to make a decision by tomorrow on this, so any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

the BestBuy current price is far and away the best you can get on this currently and I think you'd be wise to go this route. Sometimes it takes a day or two for people to respond to posts btw.

Thanks abaxter for your 2 cents - I was thinking it was a pretty good price but before I plunk down that much cash, I just wanted to check with folks here first. The one thing that I was thinking is because the tax adds up (about $140 in this purchase) the price goes from $1,650 to just about $1,800. If I were to buy it on-line somewhere for say $1,700 (if that's possible), even though the purchase price would be higher, I'd save money overall because there wouldn't be any tax. Anyway, just wanted to check.
And yeah, I think I've gotten use to another forum which I visit (dvdr forum) which people seem to live on that forum and get back to each other multiple times a day. I'll try to exercise patience - it's just that this is a purchase I'd like to make today! Thanks again -

I read from bf2004.net that you may get S260 for $1600 on the black friday weekend. It's not as much as you would like, but probably the best you can find recently. Go to www.bf2004.net and download the ad scans to see for yourself. I am not sure you want to follow their recommended strategy of buying first then price match on next Friday, though.

Do you live close to a state border? Maybe a little drive would yeild a better sales tax.
I was on the road when I bought my S260. Bought it in Indy (6.0%) instead of home in S Texas (8.25%)

If you do get the S260 I would recomend you get one with the DVD R.
I didnt get it and I was thinking on this point.
Great, I have the firewire input. But how cool would be to be able to record something on my video cam and write it to dvd so I could watch it on my tv.
Just my thought....or regret...not even sure it is valid. I dont even have a video cam -
Well, I decided this evening to go ahead and plunk down the $1,650 plus tax of course, and got myself a P260. The more I use it tonight the more I love it. I had a V505 for about a month before I decided to sell it on eBay and get the 260. Even though it was a costly upgrade for me, it is well worth it to me for lots of reasons. The one that I'm noticing now is the keyboard. This is great! Now, if I can just upgrade the optical drive to a DVD-R, then I would be REAL HAPPY [
] I don't mind waiting on that though since my desktop has one. However, I would like to do the upgrade, that is if it's possible, sometime within the next year. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
