As I could not run any disk or usb applications to check for infection/attack etc.
I decided to a full system restore.
It gets as far as disk 3 stops at 30% then errors 320 330 show. Then nothing
Tried to install win 7 ultimate ( was running vista home premium)
    gets so far. Then errors
    0xc0000001
    0x80070017
What is the point of wasting time and money making back up disks that do not restore?
    I ran test and got
    Linear seek test failed (e-hdd-001)
Do these companies really expect anyone to understand what that means?
Could some kind person please tell me. Is the HDD useless or could it be something else?
Someone mentioned faultly RAM. If that was the case there would be no images viewable
Please help before this thing flies out of the window.
Charging premiium rates to talk to Sony techs is also out of order considering the price of the laptop

    Many thanks in advance

    According to this article,
Windows 7 Installation Error 0x80070017 - Microsoft Answers

the second error refers to bad media.

the first error probably means your password file is corrupted:
Startup Error Code 0xc0000001 - Operating Systems

and hence it wont allow you to restore. You probably have bad discs to begin with. But you'll have to try reinstalling windows rather than restore.

I think you can do a re-install too with the restore disks, as long as they are not too bad. If your media are so corrupted (scratches, bad writes, etc). then you'll just have to create the disks on another similar laptop or order original ones from sony. Or just buy a retail copy of windows 7 and re-install it, and download all original drivers from Sony's website.
