I have a Sony Vaio FW laptop with a HDMI output, when i had vista i could plugin my hdmi output in to my TV hdmi input and immediatly see my computer display on my TV. As soon as i upgraded to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit, when i plugin the hdmi cable nothing happens, i am unable to get my tv and laptop to notice each other, Win 7 doesnt seem to notice at all. Any thoughts?

    Thanks
    erik

When you plug the HDMI cable in, try going to the "Screen Resolution" and pressing the "Detect Displays" button.

Just a shot in the dark, have you tried reinstalling the ATI drivers, as well as Catalyst Control Center?

thought about, but kind of chalked that up as a last resort, sometimes messing with ATI drivers results in chaos

If you use ATI Install manager to uninstall the drivers, then use Driver sweeper to clean the extra files (in safe mode), then use Mobility Modder to mod the latest ATI 9.12 drivers (not 10.1), everything should work fine.

    It's complicated though

I have a FW 490 as well and had no problems getting my TV to see my laptop. I asume you changed the input on your tv to HDMI? What happened in my case was that I needed to go to resolution (right clicking on my desktop) and select the TV monitor as the device.
