Firstly, let me say hello. My names Jamie, i'm 21, and have a problem with my Sony Vaio K215M Laptop.
Basically, a couple of months or so ago, i looked at my laptop screen to see it was a wierd green and blue colour, it was all fuzzy, wavey and blurred. You could still use the laptop, just not see the screen properly. I managed to open the casing around the screen, and below the screen infront of me was some sort of long thin circuit board with a plastic housing around it, and a wire going in it (left) and a wire coming out of it (right). I managed to pull the (right) wire out of the board thinking it was a loose connection, and the screen then went dark. I put the connector back in, and it was all normal again and the screen was perfectly clear. Now, every 5 days or so the screen will go green and fuzzy again, so i have to open it up again and pull out the wire etc.. and it will be fine for another 5 days.
Could anyone tell me what they think is going on? Its not being shaken, or moved, it sits still at my desk!! This product is out of warranty, however if i had some sort of idea or a technical term for this problem, or the part(s) that need replacing I will seek to do this myself.
Thank you
p.s for the record, i'm running windows xp home, no other hardware upgrade other than 300gb external usb hard drive.

I'm afraid I know nothing about this sort of thing, but I can tell you its definately the hardware, not the software at all. I do wonder why it keeps getting messed up the screen if it sits perfectly still though?

Maybe the act of opening and closing the lid is causing the connector to become loose enough for the problems until you manually plug the connector securely?

Well if it was to do with the opening and closing the lid then when i clip it closed again after I have sorted it, surely it would go fuzzy again? The fact that its perfectly fine for five days or so, and then just goes all of a sudden suggests something else. Could it be overheating??

That thing with the plastic casing is called the LCD inverter. But usually when it fails it either goes really dark or extremely bright. I have never heard of it going green/blue.
You can buy a LCD inverter off ebay and just swap it. Both the left and right connector can be unplugged
But it might also be the wires that is damaged, as I have said before usually when LCD fails they either go dark or bright and not green/blue. -
thanks BaNZ thats exactly what i needed to know
