I have a problem with the Finger Print Control Centre, in that I cannot open the application. I can open 'Edit Fingerprints' (User Enrolment) and other menu items, but not 'Start Control Centre'.

This is the same if I select from taskbar, from start menu, from windows explorer (ctlcntr.exe) and also if I run it as administrator. I have upgraded the Protector Suite to version 5.8.2 but am not sure if this is the cause. I have downgraded back to 5.6 (Sony version) but the symptoms are the same.

The application flashes briefly as if it is opening but closes again immediately(less than 1 second).

The only bit of the problem driving me nuts is the inability to open Control Centre, as I want to change some settings.

    Any assistance appreciated! Thanks

the only thing i can ask is..did you do a full uninstall of upek before upgrading to v5.8? i know youve downgraded back to v5.6 now w/o luck but still was wondering.

thought that might be causing a problem, so I did a full un-install, deleted the files and registry entries I could find, re-stared and then a fresh install of 5.8 - no good.

so were you having this issue (cant open control center) w/ the upek v5.6 originally...even before upgrading to upek v5.8?? i have seen posts in this forums in the past where you can d/l a tool that removes all entries of upek s/w traces and just start completely over. ill look for them again.

Thanks dz2k, that would be handy to try. I didn't have any issues before the upgrade, but cannot confirm it was a direct result of the upgrade, as I didn't open the control centre immediately after. There wereother upgrades along the way, so it might have been anything - haven't really helped myself here have I?

Just a shot in the dark: Did you by any chance install Internet Explorer 8?
If so, try to uninstall it and see whether it helps. IE8 causes incompatibility problems with a lot of programs, especially .NET based ones (including, but not limited to Vista Sidebar, MS Home Server admin interface, ProTools, Solidworks, HP printer drivers and many others).

I did install ie8 and could try to uninstall it - thank for the suggestion. I am a bit hesitant, becuase I really like ie8, it seems to work quite well on my viao. I also like Chrome quite a bit, but it seems to create problems with my graphics, dual screen settings, lots of flashing and re-fomratting the displays....................I'll give it a go though.

Tried the ie8 uninstall, no joy. No, haven't installed Windows 7, just plain old Vista Ultimate (which I reckon might have been ironically named......................)

mane, sounds like you manually deleted some of the registry files yourself also for upek?! system restore may be your next best bet.

Yes I did get rid of registry files for upek, but only after I had this problem, so I don't think my tinkering brought the problem on (could be wrong though). I might just have to live with it for a while. System restore isn't an option, as it has been a problem for a few months - I should have fixed it back then, but didn't notice.

Here is the guidance I got after I contacted UPEK:

    1. Download “Windows Installer CleanUp Utility” from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    2. Install it using right-click and “Run as administrator”.
    3. Run Start -> All Programs -> Windows Install Cean Up.
    4. Select “(All Users) Protector Suite QL…” and click Remove.
    5. Apply PSQLUpg.reg (you can download this file from link below) or manually remove value “producttype” from key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Protector Suite QL\1.0”
    6. Rename file "fusstub.dll" to "fusstub.1" (it is located in \Windows\System32). If using PS QL 5.4 you have to rename file "psqlpwd.dll" to "psqlpwd.1"...
    7. REBOOT
    8. Delete whole “Protector Suite QL” folder (located in \Program Files)
    9. Install PS QL 5.6
    10. REBOOT
    11. Run enrollment wizard and initialize device (most probably only enrollment to HDD will be possible)

    Download link for psqlupg.reg:
    http://files.upek.com/GetFile.aspx?K...4YL01711MUXJQX

Please make sure, you reboot your machine after step 6 and 9!

    hi

i tried all of the above steps but to no avail (ran into some big issues trying to get QL uninstalled).

Contact QL support and they advised that any dual display software that I was running may have been causing the issue. Sure enough Multimon was the culprit. Some sort of issue when it was trying to overlay its custom buttons on top of the standard windows min/maximise/close.

Disabling application, adding an exception via multimon compatiblity options or upgrading to latest version of multimon will fix the issue.

    read more here http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/forum/messages.asp?tmpl=UltraMon&Topic=9520#33745

    Hope this helps someone !
