    Hopefully someone can help.

Recently this computer stopped responding and wouldn't boot so I did a recovery, which failed partway through. Now I get an "Operating System not found" message.

I'm also unable to boot off of a CD (Bart PE) that I used for booting my desktop system when all else fails. The boot disk works fine in my other system. Attempting to boot up off of the CD gives the same error message as above.

Does anyone know if this is a BIOS type issue or something deeper? If it's a BIOS issue, how do I upgrade/repair the BIOS without being able to boot into an operating system?

    Thanks!

It sounds like a dead hard drive. You can try booting with a ubuntu live CD.
