I tried making a skype call and noone could hear me. I then noticed that using windows sound recorder app I was getting no volume input on the TZ from my microphone. I switched to the front mic and that works fine but the built in TZ mic is not functioning. Is this an issue with the TZ170's under xp or am I missing something?

I wish it was that easy. I have all drivers installed and device manager shows everything working correctly.

I have a TZ198 with XP and I had problems with Skype and the built-in mic, including bad feedback and no audio. I don't believe I ever solved it. The TZ198 is now being readied to be sold, so I'm planning on doing a clean Vista install for the buyer and can't be of much help.

Go to >> master volume > Options > Properties > & change mixer device to Realtek HD Audio Input. Check the "Front MIC" increase the volume.
Test recording yourself in XP´s sound-recorder...
    Should solve your mic-problems...
