When I first got my s460, I had to order it because all of the bestbuy were out of them. So I did, when I got it, I was amazed at how nice it was. Then I realized that the screen is a little weaker than my other sony laptop. I didn't care.

Then I realized something else that was a little weird. When I had the screen on low (4 bars) plugged in or not, ever once awhile the screen would like dim quickly. It is pretty hard to explain; it's like when you adjusting the brightness and the screen dims a tad. It is just like that but the screen doesn't dim or anything. It stays at 4 bars. I thought it's normal, but when I am doing a paper, it pisses the hell out of me. I say it happens every 30 secs or so. It's doing it right now as i'm typing this. But when I have the screen on FULL brightness, it doesn't do it.

So I took the laptop to bestbuy and showed them. They were little confused at first, then I sat there with them and they saw it too and gave me a new one. Now that I got the new one, it's doing the same thing.

I called sony and told them about this, but they told me to send it in and have it checked out. I really didn't want to send it out.

Is this normal? What should I do? Because I took the last one from best buy again, and i don't think they will have more coming in soon.. or maybe they will?

sorry i wrote so much, just wanted to cover everything.

    Thank you,
    Sann

I don't think I have seen this kind of problem reported here. I think sending it in is the best route.

Problem has been solved... The problem was the graphics card (nvidia GO 6200). After giving me my 4th sony, they did an update to the graphics card and the flashing screen (that i thought was a glitch) was no longer a problem. So the problem is solved, and I love my s460 more than ever. :)

My S460 also does a screen flashing kind of a thing. It flashes bright though, not dim. I was pretty sure I had the newest drivers. I'll check it out later.

    Sann,

Which graphics card did they upgrade you to? I was at Best Buy today looking at the S460 and noticed that it was considerably dimmer than the FS model even though they had the same resolution and brightness setting. The Best Buy sales people could not explain the difference and only stated that perhaps their floor model was defective. But after seeing the posts here I wonder if a new graphics card would do the trick.

    bluflax,

they're all like that. trust me, i've went through a lot of s460.

they did not upgrade my graphics card, maybe i worded it wrong, but they upgraded or updated the driver for it.

btw, don't let the screen crap stop you from buying an S. I was in the same situation and i was like man the screen sucks, but when you don't compare them, the S's screen is pretty good.
