Ok, so today windows update shows me an optional update, which is this one.

IDT - Audio - IDT High Definition Audio CODEC

So I figured I should install it because it may be one of my problematic drivers. The installation was successfull. however, when I restarted my computer (required by the update), my speakers no longer work, the volume icon in my taskbar shows an "x" on it, and if i click it it says "no audio output device is installed". I tried playing songs but no sound comes out. The thing is that after the restart, SP1 showed up in WU, but since my speakers don't work, i dont know what to do...should I update even though my speakers don't work? will the SP1 fix the issue? or should I system restore and install it again? Any suggestions are appreciated. thanks in advance.

Same problem here with the same laptop.

I rolled back to the previous driver because I read somewhere that Microsoft pulled SP1 back again due to another bug and I need my music more than a SP.

I might just do that, but how safe is that? I mean since its a problematic driver, won't it cause issues later on after the installation?
