    Hi guys,

I am trying to upgrade my VGN-S480 (customized S460) with a 1Gb memory upgrade. I purchased the following SODIMM from newegg:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145562

But I cannot place the RAM into the slot, the DIMM has a slot in the wrong place. Does this model laptop use a proprietary RAM? Is there a way to install standard RAM module?

    Please help

    S460 uses DDR2 so-dimm.

If I'm not wrong, the S-series are using what's called the micro SODIMM memory module (also found in the T-series) that has a shorter length than the regular SODIMM memory modules. These type of RAM (micro SODIMM) are much more expensive than the regular sized ones...

No, the DIMM module which came with the S480 is exactly the same size as the one I purchased: just the slot is about a millimeter different. It looks like a DDR2 SODIMM will fit in this slot.
