Left my BX-760 (Windows XP SP3) running perfectly yesterday and opened the lid this AM and all applications were closed (I was running Firefox, Outlook, MS Word), I'm not able to connect to my local network and there is a Protector Suite dialog box that says:

Cannot create instance of class 'CID_WebProtModule' with interface 'IID_PPModule'

I'm not using Protector Suite (never enrolled) and have had no issues with this ~5 month ago laptop.

I'm unable to use system restore: when I try to launch it I get a dialog box stating that "system restore is not able to protect your computer. Please restart your computer, and then run system restore again" and I do this but I keep getting the same dialog box.

Wondering if anyone can help me troubleshoot this or if anyone has experienced this problem???

    Cheers,
    David

As a fyi, this problem is a symptom of McAfee's software update FU. I know how to fix the issue BUT I cannot get the computer to boot in safe mode...what a pisser...
