    First hello all!

After trying to get Protector Suite 5.6 to work on a SZ-350BP looks like I finally managed to get it right!
I just installed, and everything seems to be working just fine!

Ok, so here's what I did:

    1-Uninstall Previous PSQL software.
    2-Reboot
3- Download and install this file:
    Download
    4-Reboot

And that's it! At least it worked for me!
If you have any questions I'll be glad to help.

P.S. Its really a shame sony support is so bad. Why arent there updated drivers on sony's support page yet?? Many other manufacturers already realeased updated drivers for VISTA for example...

Can you post a screen shot or just copy down all the hardware info for your fingerprint reader. You can get that by running the UPEK Applet in control panel. I just installed 5.6 this morning from the Toshiba site and even though it installed fine (driver and app), it wouldn't recognize my fingerprint reader.

    Thanks!

Is this updated driver only for Vista or will it work on XP? Does it add support for Firefox 2.0 and IE 7?

I'm running this on a SZ260 with XP SP2. FireFox 2.0 support has worked since 5.3, but 5.6 adds IE 7 and Vista support.

How did you get 5.3 to work with Firefox 2.0? Also I am downloading the file you gave me and it's only about 10MB...the original UPEK Fingerprint driver from Sony's website that came with my SZ is like 242MB!! WTF?

I don't need to download or install this if you can show me how to get 5.3 (which is what I believe I have) to work with Firefox 2.

When you uninstall the previous one does it save all the logins/ids that are already stored and encrypted so that the new version will recognise them?

FYI...I uninstalled 5.3 and installed the file in this thread. It works great!! Firefox 2.0 and IE7 but most importantly it recognizes fingers much better than 5.3 and there's a sensitivity setting too!!

    MUST HAVE.

Well the LINK still works here. Version 5.6 is much much better that 5.3, and works perfectly fine with both FIREFOX 2.0 and IE7.
And as you guys noticed, its much smaller (I dont know why Sony version 5.3 is so big, since this one has everything and some extra, and is only 10 MB)
I'm running it on XP PRO SP2 and all is fine.

You should either download it from here or here.
This file is from the ASUS support page, but it works just fine on any SZ machine.
Just download and install it on VISTA or XP.

I was able to put vista on my sony sz260p, most things work okay. But then I soon realize now that it doesn't seem to acknowledge that it's a sony vaio, why is that? Any suggestions here.......

    Plus

I am unable to use keyboard shortcuts for volume, brightness & also the s1-s2 switch, anyone know how to get that working?

Oh yeah, it doesn't acknowledge my built in camera...I'm not sure what to do, advice would be helpful.

other than that, everything works well.

For some reason the "My Safe" feature seems to not be installed with the package I downloaded from this thread. Anyone else notice that? Is there any way to get it back?

I am dying to update my Protector Suite on my SZ. But I have a few important questions.

    1. Do I need to back anything up? Do I need to copy the files from "My Safe" into another file? What about the page registrations?

    2. Will I need to retrain the computer or will it find my old fingerprint registration files.

This new version of the software loses the concept of My Safe. Instead, you can create encrypted folders of data (similar to encrypted WinZip files) that operate just like MySafe did (requires the fingerprint authentication). In my opinion, it works far better.

    1. Yup, copy everything out of My Safe, then you can re-encrypt them later on (re what I said above)
    2. It finds your old fingerprint data just fine

Version 5.6 is far far better than the old version; fingerprint recognition has a far higher success rate. A highly recommended upgrade.

    Fantastic!

    Ok a few comments.

    1. This update takes less than 5 minutes from start to finish. It seems to fix all of my IE7 bugs.
    2. Follow the directions. Before you uninstall though, copy any files from your safe into another, non locked file. Also copy your .db files into a file that you name yourself. The *.db files are your site logins.
    3. Uninstall Protector Suite. Reboot. It will ask you if your want your safe saved. This will not really work. That is why you copied those files earlier.
    4. Install te new 5.6 Protector Suite. Reboot.
    5. Allow Protector Suite to complete installation. Mine could not find my finger print reader. I had to log on with my password the first time. Then I went into Hardware installation and had the computer check for uninstalled hardware. It found the fingerprint reader the first time and enabled it.
    6. As soon as the reader was enabled, Protector Suite came on and recognized the reader and associated my fingerprints. It had me swipe a verification and asked me if I wanted old associations imported.
    7. It then saw my old "my safe" and told me that the feature was no longer used and explained the new encrypted files. It then removed the remnants of the "my safe"
    8. Protector Suite seems to work now on all pages of my IE7 and not just the top pae and the finger print algorithm seems to be more robust. Nice update.
    9. Sony...when are you going to put this on your support page?

Thank you VERY much to the original poster. This new version works approximately 1000x better than the old one, from better recognition to easier integration and better user interface. Things like this make this website one of the most useful on the web.

For uninstall the 5.3 after upgrade to vista and get "need IE 5.0" error, I solved this problem.

    1. Download that very large sony 5.3 file
    2. click install, then check "remove" software, that can uninstall 5.3
    3. Reinstall 5.6

    then ok.

My Vaio is running 5.2. I want to load 5.6 but I have the same problem as andyogg1. When I try your method (above), I still cannot do anything as I get the same error message that I can't load 5.2 until I remove 5.2. What can I do?

I have registered to this forum just to say thanks to you all.

Protector QL 5.6 works on my SZ340P (Windows XP)

This vaio came with Version 5.3. I have experienced random crashes of menusw.exe. I can't say if 5.6 will fix this, but it's worth installing. I no longer have to type my password in Bios! Sweeeet

    Hi all!

I have upgraded to this PSQL 5.6 version from 5.3 using the Sony ftp file on my SZ340P/XP PRO.
I have set up a fingerprint login for Bios and Windows session. Everything seems OK except that I have noticed a slight bug: whenever I shutdown the PC, after the next power on I got a warning in the event log (eventvwr\applications) event number 1517 (ie. user registry taken up by an application at logoff). This warning does not show up anymore if I do not use the fingerprint reader to logon to my windows session.
    So here are my questions:
    - has anyone with the same configuration, got the same problem?
    - will the other file available on Sony servers (entitled PSQL/Registry patch version 5.6.0.3278/061108) solve this problem?

    Thanks for your help.
