Does anyone know how this works?

Where is the fingerprint match stored, does the process involve use of the TPM chip? If it does, how does this increase security?

Is it possible to use a password instead of a fingerprint - what if the fingerprint scanner breaks and your computer won't boot until it receives a matching scan.

OK, after reading the manual, d'oh, you can use an alternative password.

My question remains on how the fingerprints are stored though and does the process involve use of the TPM chip?

    Thanks

Maybe it can use the TPM chip, but it works fine without it. (It is disabled by default in the BIOS).
