This morning after a great deal of deliberation, I finally went to order my Sony Vaio TZ170N/B from ecomelectronics. I had called the day prior and they told me they had it in stock for immediate shipping. So I get online this morning, order the TZ170N/B excitedly, pay for ground saver shipping, check out and call it a day. About an hour later I decided to call just to check on the order status since it was a fairly large order. Thank goodness I did, they couldnt verify the card through paypal, and needed additional information. Then the rep told me once we had cleared things up, the TZ170 was only available in champagne and the black would take 10 days or so to arrive. I was frustrated as I had already arranged for a gentleman on craigslist to pick up my old laptop so I could move on to the new one.

Heres the kicker, the rep realized that the TZ150 was the same as the TZ170 (I knew but wasnt sure this was an option) and said he had the TZ150 available now in black. I mentioned I wanted the 2GB of ram and that was a clincher for me. He throws in a free stick of 2GB "HIGH SPEED" (not sure what that means, no real specs on the site), and upgrades my shipping to overnight for my troubles! I just got the ups tracking number and my card was charged a total of $2139.90 shipped overnight! The laptop is new in box, I'll post more tomorrow and let you know if ecom holds up to their word. So excited!

Thanks! I'm psyched. I wanted a TX and by the time I saved up for it the TZ came out. Then I waited a bit more and settled on one. I had a MBP CD 2.16 loaded to the gills, went from that to a T4010 Lifebook, and decided to finally go back to the Sony, and lo and behold, a gorgeous new model. Its got an elegance to it, and isnt as common as the macs are becoming nowadays.

Now I'm saving up for this case http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188511

I hope not, lol, a major reason I bought one is because its a bit more expensive and I dont see them around here at all. The MBP was a good computer but far too ubiquitous for my taste.

2139 from ecomelectronics for tz150? Why so much if you getting the 2gb upgrade and overnight for free. I was quoted 1825 as the bottomline price for the tz150.

Not "for free" I wanted the TZ170, and the ram upgrade was a 200+ upgrade on the TZ150 on their site. He just gave me a TZ150 w 1GB Ram, an additional stick of 2GB Ram, and upgraded the shipping from 2 day. If you add all that up it comes out to much more than the TZ170 on their site. They just didnt have any black TZ170's in stock. I guess I'll post the spare 1GB stick on B/S/T shortly.

Im way ahead of you on selling the ram in b/s/t muahaha. Im just saying if you can still change your order just order the tz150 alone use paypal checkout and you should get a free upgrade to 2nd day. And the ram buy it on new egg for $50. Save yourself the $300 towards a 3 or even a 4 year warranty and a nice carrying case to shelter your beloved tz. In the end your getting the exact same package but with $300 in your pocket, just trying to help you save some cash money.

I love it, (thanks for the advice but the order was here the next morning) it is a fantastic computer. I was a bit worried about the size, but I'm getting used to the computer and the keyboard quickly. A bit slow with Vista, I may downgrade, but I love aero so much and I'm a sucker for good looks.

The only issue I have is in this thread.

Before you downgrade, take a look at some threads over in the OS forum -- there's lots of good advice on tweaking Vista to speed it up. If you also get rid of Sony's bloatware that will help. I'm using Vista Business on my TZ198 and it perks along quite nicely, at least for me.

A few days back, I saw a link to a sony support site to order a cd with all the xp drivers/or the os for computers that came preloaded with xp. Anyone know where it went?

Not downgrading quite yet, going to attempt a bloatware free install tonight probably.
