I have a friend coming back from England in mid July, so there's a chance for me to purchase a CTO ( Premium Carbon, i5 540M, 6GB Ram, 320GB 54k/500GB 72K still contemplating, HD1080, Fingerprint and 9 cells battery) for $2100 with tax recalaimed. I'm kind of a guy who pursuits the latest technology like new GPU and CPU for the Z, however I don't play games much. So will there be a major upgrade in September ( I heard someone said Sony refreshes quarterly) or should I make a purchase next month.

It has just been refreshed and nothing much has changed - extra RAM and integrated 3G here in Australia. I don't see the Z being drastically changed in September - perhaps a few extra 0.something GHz and larger SSD.

I doubt that there will be any drastic change...but if you can afford to wait...then wait.

Well , I can wait until July to make a purchase, wonder will there be any conventions or anything electronic events in summer. And the only minor upgrade I can think of is Optimus

I think buying now would be better, considering the Z12 looks like a Z11 with different configurations.

I also think the triangle Z graphics switch is better than Optimus anyway, it gives me more control.

Yes, you are right about optimus's disadvantage. Has anyone felt like you chasing the latest technology..There's something about the GT 330M that I want it to be something superior, thought I barely play games anymroe

GT330 is ready fairly decent compared to most notebooks out there, considering the size and weight.

A huge step up from the last generation series with 9300GS.

I really want to configure the Z with a 1920x1080 resolution screen. However, it seems that Sony will no longer offer that option (on sony style's website).

    What's going on?

Sony UK has it, but CTOs are not available atm, maybe after June refresh. I'm not in a rush atm so it's okay.

Yeap as others have said, the Z just got a refresh. I wouldn't expect anything major before the next intel platform, ETA Q1 2011.

the current i series is already good.. I don't think there will be any necessary upgrades for me to wait for the next platform. If Intel can produce an i7 mobile quad ( that runs as powerful as the current i7 mobile quad) with TDP of 20W, then I would reconsider
