I got a Vaio recently from Amazon.com, is it possible to buy the extended warranty from online retailers like buy.com? It's $70 cheaper than Sony direct. Unless this warranty is only available to customers who bought their notebook from the same place (e.g. buy.com)?

I am sure they offer warranties, but I wouldn't recommend it. Going with extending the original manufacturer's warranty is the best thing to do, if you plan on keeping a notebook for longer than the standard one year.

The extended warranties offered by companies such as Amazon/Best Buy are good for small electronics and LCD/Plasma TVs. But usually those plans are just a rip off, so watch out.
