I just ordered an SZ120 off of Amazon. It is backordered for a week. But, when it arrives I would like to take for a spin at the local cafe for some wireless surfing. Does anyone know of a notebook case or sleeve that is a perfect fit for this machine? I am looking for a case that is small enough to fit in a backpack. :) Thanks. -UR

WHICH neoprene case... the undersized "1" model as specified in the PDF specsheet, or the oversized "3" model as specified on the webpage?

Kind of annoying that they haven't created a "perfect fit" case specifically for this model. :-(

I have this case and I hope it will fit on it. I like this case very much and I used it with my R505GL.

Sorry but I dont think it will fit. I took my SZ into the sonystyle store and tried every case they had and it didnt fit in that case.

I think its even too small for the 13" s-series neoprene case. Since that one stretches, you might be able to force it. :p

It looks like the same one I tried. I just measured my SZ at 12.5 x 9 inches. I remember the inside pocket not being wide enough.

You might want to post a model number... your link goes to a generic framed page.

I've got an old small leather notebook case with seude interior that I bought a number of years ago for another notebook... never used it much. The interior measures about 12" wide, 9.5" deep and 1.75" thick. But it's sort of flexible, so I'm somewhat hopeful that the SZ will actually fit - although that's only because I can't seem to find anything better. The smallest I've been able to find locally has been designed for 15.4" notebooks!

I thought I saw a report from someone who tried that case and said it was too small for the SZ, and was likely why Sony was specifying the "3" model for 15.4" notebooks on their site?

If you go to the SonyStyle.com page for the 160 premium...and go to the accessories page...there's a portfolio-sized case for the SZ there. It's rather pricey at $89, but it's a perfect fit, and has enough flex to easily accomodate the slightly thicker non-premium model. I think it might even fit better, in fact...if more snug is better... It's a very nice case because it adds a lot of strength/rigidity, but without adding much bulk. When you carry it, it looks like you're only carrying one of those "Trapper Keeper" sized 3-ring binders they used to sell at school supply stores... $89 is a bit much, but it's a high quality case. Also, there are no other pockets, hooks, straps...but sometimes that's exactly the way I like it. It also fits inside my nice larger Dell bag (computer inside case...inside Dell bag. -A perfect, double, ultra-protected fit for when I want a full brief-case sized carrier).

I think your talking about my post. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=1284968&postcount=4

That neoprene case doesn't fit the way it should. It's designed for the S series.

Since it stretches, of course you can force it to fit. Sony knows that it wont fit easily.

If you ordered an SZ from SonyStyle and added the neoprene case, they will ship you the case for 15" model.

I tried out my old leather case and it turns out it's too small width wise... so I'm looking for a new case. Not sure what to go with now. Does Sony make anything that *fits* *properly*?

    Shopping for a sleeve/case. I see a few options:

    1. The neoprone one that sony sells. Not sure this is the link, but it looks like this. someone noted it is cheapy feeling.
    http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...acc_PCAccessories_CasesSecurity_NotebookCases

    2. The leather case that sony sells. $89.99, looks like it should be a perfect fit (but will add 1.6lbs!!). I dont think anyone has seen or tried this yet ??
    http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INT...ses&ProductSKU=VGPCKSZ1&TabName=feature&var2=

    3. Kensington had a nice one that I was inspecting at Circuit City today, but it is designed for 12.1", however, I tried it on the SZ model and seems like it will fit snugly in there:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002UHUUG/103-2633595-6339042?v=glance&n=172282

    4. The targus bag that javylsu put up pics for. He liked it and it fit well, but I didn't love its looks.

I have a SonyStyle gift card so I'm leaning towards the $89 leather case. Anyone have an opinion?

BTW, I had the small Franklin Covey/Victorinox SW messenger bag which almost fits the SZ perfectly. I say "almost" because the inner velcro strap barely closes and doesn't close if i leave a PCMCIA card sticking out of the side of it. Bad thing is that in the rain a little water can seep in so its not very good protection. I guess I should have bought a bigger one then I could put the SZ in a sleeve into this!! But its a nice stylish bag overall.

I like the $89 case from Sony, but only it had a handle or a sholder strap.

I've seen it in person at the Sony store, and it seems a bit bulky to carry in your hand.

I have this sleeve; I bought it at CompUSA. It fits with a tiny bit of stretching when zipping it up around the corners. But it fits. I'm returning it however to get a vaio sleeve from ebay similar to it. I'll see how it works out.

I did take a close look at the portfolio sleeve at the SonyStyle store today before watching V-is-for-Vendetta (superb movie btw!!).

I thought it was okay, but for $89 you dont get much. I don't like the magnetic closure, I feel if you hold it upside down your laptop is going to slide out of this. Also didn't like that it had no handles. The material is canvas with some leather trim it seems.

Oh man, do I want to see that movie!!! Anyway, back to topic.

I saw that $89 sleeve, and I agree with BIGTIMEGAMES, it doesn't inspire confidence, much less motivate me to pull out my wallet... It reminds me of the "Trapper Keeper" binders that kids lug to school. What I dislike most is that 1) It seems so big and heavy for such a svelte notebook, and 2) It doesn't have any handles, so you literally have to carry it like a binder. And DON'T YOU DARE carry it upside down, because then your SZ will turn into a $2500 paperweight - OUCH!

Your worries are unnecessary (about carrying it upside down). After reading this post, I stuck my 160 in the case and held it every possible way...shaking it up and down while not holding the flap at all. Result? -It stayed completely secure with not even a hint of release or of opening at all.
I agree that $89 seems too much, but its far better than any sleeve I've found--and I've looked everywhere. I'd rather pay $89 for a case a really like than $39 for one I really dislike.

Also--Just in case anyone has a Dell briefcase-type laptop case for a 15"...this Sony portfolio-ish case for the SZ not only fits perfectly into it...but due to a coincidence of design...it actually "locks" into place without even using the velcro straps since the pads in the briefcase slide into the indentations of the Sony case! Perfect! :)

Very helpful input. I checked out all of the suggestions and liked the Sony bag. But at $89 the price seems excessive. In the end I decided to try out the Shoreline Spor-T 14.1 " from ebags. http://www.ebags.com/shoreline/spor_t_jacket_14_1_screen/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=71750. In the store, an older model seemed to be a good fit and I like the fact that the rear panel zips open to allow charging and air to flow through the fan.

But, I've come across a couple of nifty screen protector/cleaning cloths for mac notebooks at: Acmeand Marware. Does anyone know if similar products are available for the SZ VAIO line?

I've logged well over 100K air miles with my Ogio computer backpack and my Dell Latitude 610 in the past 12 months. My SZ110 fits right in the same snug pocket between the straps and the back of the bag. Great all around padding and protection. I love this bag....puts my Tumi computer backpack to shame for what it can hold (I'm a dumper) and far better protection IMHO for the measly $70 I paid for it on eBags.

I have a vaio sleeve that is made out of the same material the psp's sleeve is made out of. It is a bit thicker, but not bulky. It also zips up easier than the neoprene sleeve that sony sells (without being any bigger).

    Agreed...

I swear, all the bags I see are either too big or too small...

Which is REALLY weird considering that the SZ is 1 inch on each side larger than a piece of standard A4 8.5 x 11 paper... so wouldn't a lot of student bags have a compartment about this size ???

    Really strange.

Yup - but I bet once Apple makes a 13.3" widescreen, you'll see bags galore.

This is why I've been hunting high and low for the perfect, yet stylish bag. I'm not an old fuddy duddy, so I don't need a formal briefcase, but I want something that looks nice AND will be good for the laptop and whatever else I have to carry.

I just don't also want to spend $400 to get it, either.

Lol true that...Im waiting to find a sweet case to carry around my SZ. Currently im using my 1+ year old Targus 15" bag that I used to carry my HP with.

Pretty much destroys the style but I guess it doesnt attract attention.

Though Im looking for a bag...

I have the stylish bag - that's not my issue at this point. Having bought the Sharp in the fall which is a 13.3" widescreen, I already went through part of this exercise. Now I'm looking for a sleeve for the SZ that is small but fits into my bag that I use for longer trips.

This is exactly what i've been saying for the last few days.

They're supposed to release it next month

The accessory makers will take a few weeks to get things going... and I don't know if I can wait that long, I want to make sure I protect my investment !

I have one more sleeve I want to try - one of the Tumi ones.

Bags are easier to find - Coach has a nice small map bag/messenger bag which would work, the Lodis bag I have already has a built in laptop compartment, and the Hugo Boss bag I have is the one I'm looking for the sleeve for. The Sharp has helped me pre-load alot of this work so I know what I'm looking for.

In Japan they made a sleeve for the Sharp which is thin, very protective, and nice. I wish Sony or someone would do it for the SZ.

I know this looks like a cheap knockoff (pretty sure it is), but I bought one of these off of eBay:

Genuine Sony VAIO S Series Laptop Sleeve Case 13.3"

I like it alot. VERY tight fit, and too small to support extended battery. For the money its been a good case.
