    Hello.
I've got likely a very simple question to ask. I'm thinking of ordering a VGN FW
290 (2408). When it comes to choosing Optical Disc drive, the choices are:

    DVD+/-R DL/DVD+/- DVD-RAM Drive
    Blu-ray Disc Read Only Drive
Blu-ray Disc Read and Write Drive

My choice is the first, DVD+/- DL/DVD+/-RW/ DVD-RAM drive.

My question is, can CD's be played/burned on this drive? There is nowhere to choose CD drives.

    thanks!

Yes, as far as I'm aware any DVD drive can read & burn CDs
(given that it can burn DVDs)

Also, if you check on the non CO models it should list all suported formts and the respected speeds.

I know there were some "issues" about Blue Ray drives not burning DVDs or something like it...
