Out of curiosity... do Dual SSDs boot faster (post + OS boot) than Quad SSDs, or is it the other way around, and why?

Also, does the size of the hard drives matter? ie. 2x128 vs 4x64

    Thanks all.

From what I've seen the dual seems a bit faster on startup.
But once the OS has booted, quad is more than twice as fast.

Thanks blue13x for your input. I guess it makes sense that it will take the raid controller a little longer to boot 4 ssds than 2? If you dont mind me asking, how fast are your boottimes from power on to OS login screen on your Quad SSD?

my 128gb (dual) takes 23 seconds from the time I press the power button to the desktop. It's all pretty short considering 5-10 seconds before you even see the animation.

    Thanks for the input guys.

My guess is that the more harddrives you have on RAID, the longer it's going to take to boot the OS. Again, as blue13x has mentioned, once the os is loaded and the raid controllers are activated, the quad ssds are almost twice as fast as the dual ssds.

I have no hard proof, but I disagree.

I think quad RAID should be faster at boot up too.

My single SSD boots in 19 seconds.

Well, from the input we can gather here as of now, we can see that the more ssds you have in RAID correlates to slower boot up times.

    ie. Altecx, 1 ssd, 19seconds
    beaups, 2 ssds, 23 seconds
    blue13x, 4 ssds, 32 seconds

I'm sure the read/write capabilities vary between single, dual and quad ssds, but here I'm just observing the boot up (post to os start up) times.

You take 3 ppl's answers, with no guarantees they use same computer, same OS, same definition of boot time (i.e. do you wait to see desktop, or until it's fully loaded and ready, etc.), same amount of at-boot bloatware, etc. etc. and make conclusions out of that?

Like I said, I am making assumptions from the input that people are giving me thus far... never said that this is factual, just correlations.

And again, I'm asking for boot up times which mean from power on to OS fully loaded.

I can add my 2 Vaio Zs into the "assumptions" as well:
-my 2x128gb Vaio Z boots up from power on to Desktop in 23 seconds
-my 4x128gb Vaio Z boots up from power on to desktop in 35 seconds if plugged in, and 42 seconds when on battery. (I think this has to do with Min/Max Processor State in 'power options')
