Qualcomm WWAN Driver on Z Windows 7 64 Bit Clean Install

Hi,

I performed a clean install of Windows 7 64 Bit on my Vaio-Z5 and everything works well apart from the WWAN card (Qualcomm HS-USB Modem 9222). Initally the card doesn't install and then for some reason it does after a couple of reboots after which it will pick up the mobile network and recognise the SIM but won't connect.

Any suggestions on what to do? Is there anything else that needs to be installed for this to work?

Uninstall any wwan drivers that you may have installed but put on the wwan with smart network or smart wi.

Install this first
Sony eSupport - VGNZ890 - Software Updates & Drivers

Then this

Thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested but when I load OneClick Internet it says:

"Detected unknown phone model. You can modify the name, if you wish.
QUALCOMM INCORPORATED HDA CX11270 Soft Modem"

I think the problem is that the driver for the WWAN card hasn't installed (the soft modem above is the regular telephone modem I believe) - when I look in device manager, it has an exclamatio mark next to "Qualcomm HS-USB" in "Other devices" and the device status is that the drivers are not installed.

I just tried pointing device manager to the "Qualcomm" folder in my C Drive in order to install the driver for the WWAN card and it says:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
Qualcomm HS-USB Modem 9222
Driver is not intended for this platform"

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. If you have any thoughts, I would really appreciate it!

So you uninstalled every related wwan/modem driver and restarted your computer?

You could delete any related folders in your c:/ program files before you restart as well.

 

I think so but I'll try another clean install of Windows again tonight or tomorrow and see if that works.

After several fresh installs using the links above, I think I have identified an underlying problem. The Gobi WebToGo OneClick Internet tries to activate it and fails automatically and when I click on the manual option it says the modem has the following electronic serial number and needs the activation code that came with my product documentation. I have tried asking a Sony support person for my activation code but they don't know what it is and have said that because I didn't install from the recovery disks, they can't help me.

Do you know where I can get my activation code from?

Just keep on clicking the exit button as you don't need to go through the verification process. Just go the webtogo settings and select firmware and change the firmware over to UTMS.
Then if it doesn't fnd your 3G provider just add it manually and save it.

 

Thanks Rachel. That works to an extent. It finds Vodafone and tries connecting but then gives me "Connection error. ErrorUnspecified failure".

Have you come accross this before?

I don't own a VGN Z but i am using the VGN Z5 EU WWAN card in my Sony TT. I bought a Z5 Sony Gobi card and swapped it in. I don't have that problem.
I'm using the North American TT290 Gobi image and drivers. These all are pretty much the same though.

I use three and BT and input my settings manually and have no problems. You might want to try manually adding your connection settings.

 

I tried my iphone SIM (contract) in the laptop and it connected fine so I realised there was a difference between prepay and contract which Gobi wasn't automatically picking up. After some research online, I got the Vodafone prepay details (particularly APN) and it now works!
