Just a question about Sony products in Quantum of Solace.
Can the actual product really do what it does in the movie?

Like one example would be that small laptop (the handheld one).
I like the way they use it as a GPS communication and navigation
system but I wonder if i can use it like that in real life.

As far as I know, that hendheld one is known not to be too powerful.
Thus if you install anything 'graphical' or too powerful, it will lag. Of course
the possibility of the MI agents modding it is there but just want to know
if we can use it like that in reality~
(Because I used to want to buy that product)
(Still do actually, might need it for one of my project)

You can always pick up a USB GPS receiver, along with some software (Microsoft streets and trips? I think Google earth pro can do GPS as well). I think that you can even get internal GPS chips.

Wasn't there a thread somewhere that someone managed to put an Ultra Low Voltage Dual Core CPU into a Sony UX??

A Bluetooth GPS receiver should do the job. I have not seen QoS yet but I'm surprised they put the UX in, since it was being / has now been killed off.

Graphics wise, it's a GMA950 driving a sub-XGA screen - hardly stressed. Granted you can't do any fancy 3D stuff with it or game, but that chip was commonly found in entry-level notebooks two years ago.

That post (on Micro PC Forums) had me very tempted to contact the guy for an upgrade - but at the same time I realise that it'd take only one slip of his hand for me to end up needing to scour fleabay for another UX.

However, Vista does remain usable (surprisingly) on the UX with the CS 1.33 /1Gb for what I do with it (mainly Outlook & Word - it actually boots up both in about the same time or faster than I can boot up the Mac equivalents on my 1.8/SSD Crudbook Air), and maybe W7 would be more responsive. While I do tend to replace all of my laptops at least every year, I've hung onto my older UX's beyond my customary upgrade period as there are no real equivalents worth upgrading to.

I'm really hoping that Sony picks it up again and offers it with a C2D ULV and 2Gb as a minimum. I find them so handy.
