Hey guys, was wondering if this model has the LED LCD? I just got this one and don't know if it has the LED. I have the 1600X900 LCD. Thanks.
-
No its a single lamp I think if its a US model.
-
Yes it is a U.S. model. I also saw somewhere that it has the XBrite-eco LCD but can't confirm this yet?
-
they are LED backlit screens
-
check label underneath laptop. Does it say 'Lamp has mercury. Dispose according to local, state and federal laws'? If it does, it's a single lamp display and not a LED display . the keyboard however is white LED backlit.
-
Thanks that was easy, label says "Lamp contains Mercury" Now my other question if you don't mind I ask is, how do we know if it's XBRITE-ECO? Btw do any of you guys have this model and is it LED?
-
Afaik, none of the 2010 Vaio models so far come with Xbrite features. Perhaps you were thinking of last year's FW series. Those had Xbrites but all of them were 2 or 1 lamp CCFL. The past AW series once offered RGB LED with Xbrite I think.
Well I hope someone can confirm this since I can't find info stating that the F11/F12 has it. -
I thought I read it some where that this model had the xbrite, either way though the LCD I have is beautiful. I'll try and find that Sony add.

I have a question regarding the fan, the high pitch noise can it be solved?
I want to buy the Vaio F12 here in Europe, Sweden. What should I consider, what kind of problem has this computer, why should I take this and not the Dell XPS studio 16 or the Studio 17? The latest HP envy 17 seems to have too much problems or is the problems normal? :S -
I have the U.S. Sony Vaio model VPCF126FM. I have no issues to report, mine runs and sounds flawless. I have had quite a few notebooks and this is by far the best laptop I have ever owned, but that's purely my opinion.

everybody that I have talk to recommend the F12, the thing that bothers me is that the Dell Studio 17 with cupon is 500-600 dollars cheaper. So I could get a really "bad " machine for those extra money and pay the same as a Vaio F12.
I know that the Studio 17 have some heat issue, but is seems not to be a big problem, however the warranty is not as god as Sony's. :/
I will move to Poland for studies and I want a laptop to count on.
-
if you can get the same specs as the sony for a lot cheaper then why not go for the dell...when i looking at laptops the equivalent dell was around the same price as the sony and the sony looked nice so i went with that..if the dell was considerably cheaper i wouldve bought the dell...
-
As for me I will never want to deal with dell support again. They used to be great but nowadays they just plain suck. I never had to call Sony for computers I've owned but as for my PS3 I had great tech support and service.

Money is not the issue, the issue is which will live longest during a 6 years period, Sony or Dell.

I posted this in the Dell XPS Studio section and hope of getting some help. Chose the expensive model from DELL. xD
What kind of problem should I be prepared for with this Dell setup?
Is the Sony Vaio VPC-F12S1E a better choice. Live in Sweden and I can not customize the vaio. I need a computer that works and need to have it in my hand working during the next month.

Making a choice just out of spec comparison is only part of your homework. You really have to see these computers in person to determine your tolerance levels on heat, noise, battery life, CPU throttling etc. Pay attention especially on the screens for the F12. In the case of the F series, the screen has been a heavily debated and sometimes heated discussion. Since you're in Europe I would strongly recommend the matte screen that is available only in the premium F model. You are settling for less in screen quality if you get the glossy. Just do a search in the F owners thread. It is however 3 parts long but it's better to read what everyone's opinion are to make your decision.
If I would choose between the studio xps and the premium F12 with matte screen, the F wins for me in features and looks over the Dell.
The two main things the Dell has over the F though are a better GPU and Full Adobe RGB LED screen. The Matte screen supposedly is a 2 lamp CCFL while the glossy 1920x1080 and 1600x900 are definitely 1 lamp CCFL displays. -
I have the F12 with the glossy LCD and it looks fantastic, Avatar looked amazing on blu ray and everything from web content to my art programs and games look silky smooth. I would say the LCD is above average and works for me. Under device management and Hardware ID I have the MONITOR\SNY06FA. Please let us know what the matte Lcd is.
-
can you post pics of your screen at different tilts and a black screen to see if there is a supply change. The USA glossy F12's I saw in person were average at best when it comes to viewing angles. The sweetspot is amazing with vibrant colors yes, but out of that do you see screen inversion/shading as well as light bleed in a black screen?

I have seen the Vaio and I can not choose screen so I will get the Vaio EU premium screen 1080p. If I choose I will of course tell how it is.
The Dell can not be found in any local store in Sweden
The Dell has better screen, audio, gpu, battery life and do not throttle with the 130W power supply.
A hard decision, however I want to choose the Vaio.
-
Just make sure of the difference. 1080 glossy or 1080 matte. The F does not throttle using a power supply. All brands with i7's will throttle in battery power.
EDIT: There is a possibility that the Premium matte screen is RGB LED. It Sony is advertising it as capable of producing FULL RGB colours. -

I can not choose glossy or matte. where can I find this information, Sony.se says anti-reflection so it should be matte, however the store says it is Glare.
Dell had the throttle issue because they sent a 90W PS instead of the 130W.
The Dells sXPS temp are higher then F12 by 4-10 Celsius which is note good. :/ -

Then I need to go to the Sony store and talk with them
-
I've got the EU matte display, the id is MONITOR\MS_0025
-
It wasn't clear on the UK site, but I discovered that the configurable models with an i5 cpu have the glossy display and the models with the i7 cpu have the matte display. A pain as I wanted an i5 with a matte display, but hey ho.
-
Actually, I think this is just a generic Microsoft ID.

I went to the store and saw that the 2 most expansive F12 had the EU premium 1080p matte. The screen was perfect, no banding, no bleed, brightness evenly spread across the screen and no warning sign of saying it contains mercury. I looked on and under the laptop, manuals and the BOX.
Only the F was matte, Z had a semi matte and the rest was glossy
Sweden has only three models, 1 with i5 and 2 (both premium) with i7, no customization.

I hate sony xD
The brochure from vaio.eu says that it has a Full HD Vaio Display, but sony.se says Vaio Premium Display. At the store the S and Z dispays locked identical. :/
CDON.com says the BG light is LED. :/
-
Photos will not do my display justice, you need to sit and use it to see the beauty. Mine looks great at any angles it was meant to be viewed at. I guess if i were kneeling down on my knees looking up or hanging from a ceiling looking down things might look a bit funky and thats with any display to some degree. But as I said, my display looks superb and blu ray looks out of this world. I'm not a rocket scientist or feel the need to dissect every laptop on the market, I'm very happy, Best laptop I've owned to date. What else can I say? Not to offend anyone here, but I've noticed there are a lot of nitpickers on this forum that probably never even seen the difference on most debates and only go by hearsay.
-
You know you can just tilt the screen rather than hang from the ceiling and get the same results right? If you're happy with the quality then good for you.
-
So why would I want to tilt the screen to get a worst picture?
-
Yesterday i bought F12S1E (europe model).
Disadvantages :
1. There is so much fan noise (only browsing or mp3 playing)
2. Little whistling sound which is annoying
3. If a key is continuously pressed fan speed slows down.
I must say I'm not happy with this computer because of these reasons. If you know how to solve these problems, please write. -
I too had a problem yesterday, while watching a video, I noticed on certain parts of the movie I was getting a red dot or dead pixel. I exchanged it for another one at BB with no problem, but the new one had a dent on the speaker grill, I exchanged it for the new Aluminum macbook pro 13" Instead. Gave the older macbook to my wife. So in-conclusion,after seeing this new Led display on the macbook pro I can understand now the difference between the viewing angle, there is no comparison and I would never want any other type of display
...Later.
-
At last i learned that F11 problems = F12 problems and that information cost me 1400 euros

The premium screen is better then the screen on Macbook pro. If the British T3 magazine is correct in their review. Did you get the anti-reflective screen?
-
Ok call me crazy or whatever, after spending some time with the macbook pro 13" I've decided to go back to the Vaio VPCF126FM, this laptop has got to be one of the best laptops out there for the money. Aside from the dead pixel I encountered, the exchange Vaio is perfect. I'm glad I returned the Macbook and went back with the Vaio again. Geek squad was very good through out and made sure I was very happy. Kudos to best buy.
