So after much contemplation and a 1400 dollar budget (goodbye my precious Dell M1330), I decided to lay off gaming (ditch the graphics card) and just buy the CR on sonystyle.com
However, I didn't get the any warranty plans with the laptop and I did do an engraving. Could I buy a warranty later on? If so, where? And do the notebooks come with an automatic 1 year warranty?

Sony (like Apple) offers the engraving as a trick to make you keep the laptop. I'm sure it's still under warranty, but you can't return it if you simply don't like it.

I'm sure it would cost them 5 dollars to remove the engraved piece, however they'd rather make the customer commit.

What about for wanting to buy a warranty? Where could I go?

Thanks for the responses. I certainly appreciate this.

Just call the customer service number at sonystyle. they can sell you one there. I just bought one for an FZ a few days ago and the person with whom i spoke said that you can purchase one up to 11 months after purchase if you bought it directly from sonystyle, which i had. I didn't see the point of waiting and forgetting, so i went ahead and purchased it then. make sure you get the "on-site" one instead of the "Express ship" since its same price and seems to offer a few more perks. And get the accidental damage too. in my opinion its the best part!

You can also buy it directly on Sonystyle.com under the green "DISCOVER" tab and selecting Service plans.

I'm getting the white one. I maxed out almost everything including 2.2 ghz, dvd burner, and a 9 volt battery (I really don't care if it sticks out too much). I already have a 200 gig notebook drive that I'll replace with the 80 and I plan to buy the ram on my own.
