I am interested in getting an SZ for my next laptop. I work as a Web Design consultant and will be using it to demo pages and ideas to clients, so I like that it can use the integrated video for more battery time. I also work as an EMT which means we have downtime between calls. During downtime I am an avid gamer playing most of what is offered out there. I am probably going to purchase from portable one and have them put XP on it so I am not looking for dx10 currently. My question is how well will games run on it? Also, would it run DX10 games decently if I later upgraded to Vista? I am not looking for it to be at the highest settings or highest resolutions, just that is plays well. Any opinions or should I go with one of Sony's bigger laptops and lose the portability I was looking for. I currently own a Inspiron 9300 with a GEforce Go 6800 which runs all my current games fine. Only upgrading because I want something smaller.

If you want something smaller than your inspiron, then the SZ does seem to be a great choice for a mixture of power and portability (and style
).
Sony's other bigger laptops (14.1 inch and 15.4 inch) have either the nVidia 8400 GT (256MB dedicated video RAM) or the integrated intel GMA. The nVidia 8400 GT is somewhat better than the nVidia 8400 GS on the SZ because of the larger dedicated video RAM, however, it only comes with the FZ models (15.4 inch). I personally doubt that the 8400 GT will give you that much of a performance boost over the 8400 GS. I currently own a SZ650 and it works fine with most of the games I play. -
The GeForce Go 6800 (in your Inspiron 9300) is rated to be "Performance Class 2". This rating is better than the "Performance Class 3" rating of both GeForce 8400M GS (in the SZ791N/X) and GeForce 8400M GT.
However, the GeForce 8400M GS is the DirectX 10 capable successor of the GeForce Go 7400 for laptops.

Help a guy out here
2 replies? I think the above poster is letting me know that my Inspiron has a better vid card for dx9 games then the SZ. Buying one this week and don't want to be disappointed when it won't do what I want. More feedback is welcome! Thanks in advance.

The SZ is not for gaming. It will only be able to handle modern games at low-mid settings. Read the stickies for more information.

Thanks Lithus!
Wish I had found them earlier, would have saved a lot of time.
