    Hello again
I just got my Windows 7 Upgrade DVD with the key, and it's mentioned that it's an upgrade key, I formatted my laptop hard disk, installed Windows 7 RETAIL, entered the key, and it's accepted and Windows 7 has been activated.

So what does upgrade key mean?

    Thanks

It won't work with a new hard drive (I believe).

I just installed it in my VAIO, the code is accepted and Windows 7 has been activated.

I also did the same. But how about installing the upgrade in a new HD (no OS installed before formatting)? Also there are ways to make the upgrade key work (when it fails activation) after a clean install.

I think you can't install the upgrade DVD in a formatted hard disk.
