Does anyone know if the new Z's screen (i.e., the one with 1600x900 resolution) is alleged to be superior to the prior model's 1600x900 screen?

    Thank you.

I think the new screen is tad better...less noticable diagonal lines too...

I read somewhere (I think a russian site via google translate) that the new Z 1600 x 900 uses three LEDs to produce white vs the old one that used to use two LEDs. they had some side by side screen shots and the new one seemed to be better.. thats all i have for you though

Looks like the newer ones don't blead light from around the edges like he old Z did.

My 2nd gen Z (older version) didn't bleed any white light from the edges, that is until I had to get the screen replaced.
The newer screen now bleeds like there is no tomorrow plus it's less matt, and shows more diagonal lines. I gonna guess that this replacement is a 2nd hand (hopefully not but it's possible), but just putting it out there...

Bleeding is mainly seen when displaying 'black' images, most notable at the top just under the webcam and less (though pretty visble) on the bottom, just above the SONY label on the bezel. My older screen was perfect...

I understand that the new Z's screen come as 8bit panels (display 16M colours vs the 256k on the older Zs), so that explains less diagonal lines being seen on them. I would love to see them in action, especially the 1080 screen with my video-edit apps.

I saw them side by side at my local sony store on the weekend, and i have to say that the new one is quite nice--good black levels, decent viewing angles, no bleeding, crisp, but noticably less bright and vibrant than the old model. I kept trying to up the brightness on the new model almost willing it to get brighter.

The screen won't be at full brightness if you mut it on max when it's in auto mode. You can get maximum brightness when you disable the ambient light sensor.

Ah, yes, that was the issue then, thanks. The indicator said "max (auto)".

I might pop back in and look again.

I have the older Z, it's got a great screen. I'm sure the new one is better.

What about the photo editing? Will the 1080 screen be so much better that I should wait until it's available in CTO models in the US?
