I have been considering a Sony FE series computer and was wondering if there is a different business version of this machine with upgraded features. The reason I ask is because I came across the following link on Sony's B2B website. This site shows the FE having gigabit ethernet and a magnesium case. I have only seen FE machines with 10/100 Ethernet and all cases appeared to be plastic. One sales associate did tell me that the top was carbon fiber, however, I have never been able to confirm that. Does anyone know about these possible options and if they are available? I called Sony and CDW and they didn't know anything about it.

Also, would appreciate your thoughs on the FE890E/C that is sold at Costco. It looks like a nice machine, however, the HDD is slow 4,200 rpm. Is it difficult to replace the HDD? Thanks.

Hey. Umm not sure about the carbon fiber or magnesium case. My version FE890 CTO (customize white) feels plastic-ish. I also bought the Costco one the FE890E (black one with the 4200rpm for testing purposes) and that I think too was plastic. The black one does look better and less susceptible to dirt. Sorry can't tell you about the magnesium case.

The one at Costco is nice, but the graphics card and hard drive really sucks. The hard drive is not hard to replace. You just need to take out 3 screws and that is it.\

edit: I found a link that might help you.

Thank for the link replacing the HDD. I know the Costco machine has Intel graphics, however, I don't game so I don't think it will impact me much. Does anyone know about the Gigabit ethernet? That is something that I would like since I do transfer large files among computers in my home.

    Thanks
    Mike
