So i have a 6-7 year old desktop from dell and i need a new machine to play games. I play about 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. I'm afraid if i buy a laptop(like a sony vaio FW) it will overheat. Should i be cautious about this? can i do anything? I'm tired of desktop and i want the option of going portable. I'm also going to buy an LCD monitor 22-24" and plug it in. Would that lower the power and heating from the laptop if it's monitor isn't being used?

I have an FW that I record & create music on and have never had a problem with overheating. you shouldn't really have a heat related issue if you keep the exhaust / fans clean (if you have animals) and use the unit on a clean flat surface like a desk and such...using it on the couch or in bed can cause trouble (fabrics can impede airflow)...most heat is generated from the CPU, RAM and HDD. Turning off the LCD will only help slightly...good luck!

    Cheers!
