Simple question(s): 1600x900 models also support 1366x768, right? Other than the lower resolution, are there noticeable problems when using lower resolutions?

    Thanks!

No. It's either 1600x900 or 1366x768. If both were supported, I would not have gotten rid of the original Z I bought.

The only difference really is real estate and which one you prefer. I am in the 1366x768 camp.

Since 1680x1050 (slightly bigger than 1600x900) is the typical high-resolution for 15-inch laptops (very-high res screens go for 1920x1200), I would recommend you to at least see the 1600x900 screen of the Z before you buy it. It might have icons, fonts etc too small for your eyesight.

I use 1440x900 on a 14-inch and already find it ever-so-slightly small for my taste.

Thanks for the correction. I wouldn't want to discover that mistake *after* making the purchase.

You could always raise DPI as people have recommended. Try it on your current comp to see the effects.

The hi-res is something like 1268x768 resolution one notch down and it is much more blurry, so not worth considering.

Changing DPI doesn't fix everything or work right with every program. I'm of the opinion the computer should be usable out of the box without having to tweak things like DPI. If you're trying to do a square peg, round hole kind of thing, don't bother. Just get something that works for you.

IIRC it was 1280x800, which yeah, didn't look good.

Wasn't a mistake, 1268x768 is the exact resolution.

The Z590UAB I had went from 1600x900 to 1280x800 (or 780). Maybe they've changed them.

    I'm getting 1280x768, when i come down from 1600x900 on a Z590N.

As for myself, the extra screen real estate more than made up for the slightly small font size. I primarily use my machine for CAD, and at 1368x768 (The lower res screen option on the Z540s though i probably have that wrong) my screen would be all toolbar, esp since Autodesk decided to add the ribbon interface from office to CAD.

1280x768 is the next resolution down and it isn't usable imo. 1280x800 is a resolution for 16:10 pc's.

I just got a z590 today and I have to say that I definately prefer the 1600 x 900. Everything looks really crisp and there is so much more room. The size of everything at this resolution is about equivalent to how things used to look on my old TZ (1366 x 768 on 11.1''). If you've seen a TZ or TT its pretty much the same just more of it.
