hello, a while ago i bought this sony vaio. It seemed to be quite powerful.
Ill write down the parametres so u get the idea:
    *VGN-FZ31Z is the model.
*Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU [email protected]
*RAM: 4GB (3gb because im using vista)
    *System type: 32-bit OS
    *NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GS GPU

So thing is when im trying to run a game, i have to run it on lowest settings and sometimes even then the frame rates are incredibly low making it unplayable.

When i bought this laptop i expected something more, why is it so slow? Maybe i have to update a driver or something, i dont know. Im clueless.

Can bearly run Fallout 3 on lowest settings. With supremely low FPS.

Hmm. The 8600M GS should be a decent card to run games on, though it's not high-end. My first instinct would be to try and look at your power management settings and see if you can set it to Performance or something similar. I'm on an ATI card and I can set my card in the Catalyst Control Center to "High Performance." Then, maybe check out laptopvideo2go and update the drivers for your 8600M GS GPU.

Those should hopefully fix the problems you're having! Let us know how it goes!

I tried the High Preformance, but it didnt make any difference.
After i installed the newest drivers it seemed to be a little better. Quite Playable on lowest settings.
Ill try uninstalling vista and getting XP since im not much of a fan of vista. My PC is completely full of useless and unneeded stuff, maybe that's slowing down my PC.

Thanks a lot Lattice you helped a lot and answered fast :)

Yeah, bloatware removal (clean install of XP) and updated drivers should help. Also, I just looked up the system requirements for Fallout 3. Looks like it's a pretty demanding game. Minimum requirements are low enough, but the recommended settings are Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB RAM, and the *desktop* 8800 series/ATI 3800 series with 512MB VRAM. I would guess that the 8600M GS might even struggle on medium settings, so maybe low setting is the best you can do.

Fallout 3 is extremely GPU intensive, not many laptops, let alone gaming ones will be able to run Fallout 3 with playable frame rates. You would need a minimum a 9800M GTS to run the game on minimum settings.
